Re: To those who are new to Groups io
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPeter, Frances and others -
I appreciate your efforts, and your desire to reduce the traffic here is quite admirable.
?
The problem with this message is that the ones who really could use it haven't found GMF yet. If you watch the repetition of questions you'll note a few instances where someone has answered a question and the exact same question is asked again the same day. Newbies show up and don't bother to read past posts or look for answers. Too many of them just shoot from the hip and think they're the first ones to ever have run into these things.
?
Such a post might be much more useful if it went out to people who establish new groups or to group owners when they initiate a transfer. But Mark would have to add it to the process for those events.

White-listing a group
So as an owner of one group and a member of half-a-dozen others, a new phenomenon just appeared. One of those groups just transferred over to Groups.io within the past couple weeks and ALL of the emails coming from that group are being marked as junk/spam by Comcast. NONE of the other groups have had email marked as spam except for a couple rogue messages that had questionable text within them. I went to the Comcast UI and created a rule that is supposed to direct anything from '@groups.io' to the Inbox. I just now did that, so I don't know how well it works, but that seemed kind of a clunky way to 'white-list' GIO, but I couldn't find anything better searching the COmcast site.I regularly check my junk folder for strays, but to have to do it for every email from one particular group will be a pain.
Any ideas for a better way? Dave |

You can put your e-mail address in the bio, and make it a hyperlink, if you want to. * Can I see what my profile looks like to the public?Yes. Make it public, and visit it using a different browser. The URL is: /g/<groupname>/profile/@<profilename> * Is there a way to search for public profiles?Fortunately (or unfortunately) not. From the home page, you can search for groups, but not for people. If the group's messages are public, then members of the public can visit the group's messages and search for a person by name (but not by e-mail address or by profile name). Samuel |
Re: Yahoo deleted our group
That was only on the group owner's page, so it shouldn't be an issue here. Groups.io has the same ability at the bottom of the settings page.

Unfortunately, there's no way to find out what happened and no way to report the problem. This seems to be typical of Yahoo - they really don't want their people involved. Users should just use the system and read the ads, and if it doesn't work, they really don't care. Just one more important reason why people seem to appreciate groups.io; support is real and can be reached when things go sideways. Dano ----- Original Message -----
Yahoo had an evil ¡°delete this group¡± button in a location that was much too easy to access in error and was followed by a not terribly obvious <are you certain you want to delete this group> notice. Add a little distraction or cat on your keyboard and your group could go poof. Patti |

Hi~?
I set up our group's RSS integration to work with our blog's RSS feed. But when we had a new post go out, it was not sent in the groups.io messages. Am I missing something? Thank you! |

While I understand the need for some automation here, why are there items in the boilerplate message that I cannot change?? As a paying member, I should be able to customize more of the message.? I do not care for the order of the boilerplate message (it does not flow properly to me) and I really hate the ¡°Cheers, The "My Group" Team" signature.? Why should the signature be chosen for me?
Also, where does the [Name] information pull from when doing a batch of invitations if no name is included.? Does the invitation just come out with [Name]? Thanks, Chuck Neff |

This is, after all, what the original notification implies, i.e. that there is way to turn of those particular types of notifications. In other words, she's not trying to turn off the fact that members get removed, or the fact that members get a notification when they are removed, but the notification telling her, as moderator, that a member had been removed for this specific reason. Sharonb, you can't turn off notifications about members leaving unless you also turn off notifications about members joining. This is weird, IMO, but that's the way it currently is. There is also no separate notification for members who were *removed*. There is only a notification for members who "leave", regardless of whether they left by their own choosing or left because they were removed by either Groups.io or by a moderator. In addition, you can't turn off (or turn on) notifications for specific *reasons* of leaving. You can't choose not to receive notifications about members who left for this or that reason. If you're a moderator (or owner), then you are forced to receive notifications about members leaving or members who have been removed, if you also want to receive notifications about members joining. What you can do, is to use separate e-mail addresses for normal participation and for participation as a moderator/owner. Samuel |
