Re: User deleting own post
Dano,
Something that has not been mentioned is Copyright Law. Like you,No, I don't think Copyright applies in that way. And even if it did, by posting on Groups.io you've given a perpetual and irrevocable license to display your content. /static/tos When I say that I think a user ought to have the ability to delete their content, and terminate the license to display it, I mean that as a "moral right", not a legal one. In this, I'm inspired by the former Yahoo TOS, which did provide that Yahoo's license to display your content ends when you or they remove it from the site. I haven't checked Oath's new terms to see if that provision survives. Having said that, the question of a person replying to such a post andThat's probably something lawyers could argue over. But at least in the U.S. quoting only part of the post improves your case for treating the quote as "fair use". Remember too that (under U.S. law) copyright enforcement is primarily about the commercial value of the work. If the work has no commercial value then there are no damages to be recovered in an infringement suit (statutory damages are only available if you've promptly registered the work on publication). Chat Room Problem: Chat text entered in the entry box sometimes does not appear in the Chat Dialog

?Chat text entered in the entry box sometimes does not appear in the Chat Dialog.? I have ten separate chat rooms set up in K2L Groups.? Some are in use more than others.
At various times and in various chat rooms, entering text and then clicking on "send" does not actually send the text.?? The text in the entry box just disappears and nothing happens.? It never shows up.? This seems to be temporary - later everything is working fine.? This is very annoying and defeats the purpose for which they were set up.? Any suggestions or recommendations?? Could this be a bug, slow server or what. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.????? Bill |
Re: Notification of Files Uploaded
Thank you. I knew it was there somewhere but since I was looking for it and not uploading a file, I couldn¡¯t find it.

Do others think it might be helpful to have a universal option to notify the list whenever a file is uploaded. A question by the option about who can upload files so it notifies the owners, moderators, or subscribers. A member of one of my groups uploaded a file this morning and notified the list but often people forget. I would like to be notified whenever something is posted so I can monitor it. jonathon,
It falls under _The Right to be Forgotten_ statutes, not GDPR.Either way, the point is that the right to be forgotten is not absolute. As others have replied, it does not necessarily mean that one can expect to be erased from the history of a group's messages. Notification of Files Uploaded
Is there a way for the list to be notified when files are uploaded?

Re: Curious problem logging in
Never had it happen with Groups.io, but have had it with other sites that require a periodic log-in. After several attempts to assure my self it was the site and not me, I gave up and created a new password. And every single time, upon further research, I had mis-typed the password. Either a mispelling, a missed capitalization or a missed special character. Or forgotten I had already changed the password. Not saying definitely that's what happened to you, but it's definitely a strong possibilty.?

Re: User deleting own post
Something that has not been mentioned is Copyright Law. Like you, Shal, I believe a person has the right to their own creations (writing, artistic, etc.) by copyright law. To prevent a member from deleting their own content may be an illegal 'taking' by removing control from the author/creator, and retaining it by the group owner. As such, it may be subject to legal action by the original author. If groups.io were to make the system such that a person could no longer control their own postings, that might also make groups.io subject to legal action, which is why I suspect Mark has not done that.If the individual lives in Europe, you don't have that option.I support the notion? that a member ought to have the ability The internet is full of copyright abuses, taking images from different sources and sharing them, sharing written things like quotations and stories without even giving the original author credit, or sharing sound recordings. The GDPR appears to have been written to control that, and I would expect that the courts would continue to recognize copyright law. Having said that, the question of a person replying to such a post and quoting part of the material originally posted would seem to fall into a gray area. Is such quotation allowed under the shared commons allowances as a reasonable use for educational discussions and common discourse? I am not a lawyer, although I have been involved with copyright law for many decades. As group owners, we need to recognize the law and make reasonable efforts to protect those rights, or we may see enforcement like the GDPR enacted in the US as well. Dano |
Answering Messages In Digest Mode With the Braille Note 4
Patty Fletcher
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello. A co-list member has written a message asking about how to answer messages in digest mode. I¡¯m going to copy an edited version of her question here to see if anyone has the answer. I¡¯m taking out names of mentioned list members whom she was trying to reply to. If anyone has any info about this it would be much appreciated. ? I was hoping to reply privately, but I'm subscribed in daily summary mode, and I'm having a devil of a time replying either on or off list. I may have inadvertently sent blank messages to ___ and the list. The problem is that for some reason, on my BrailleNote Touch running Android 4, I'm not finding the edit field in which to write my message. I'm sure it's a lot easier on my computer, but at times I would like to be able to do this on my BrailleNote Touch as well, so this is really frustrating. If any of you know of a way I can reply to such messages with my email program, you can email me at the address below. ? ? So anyhow, that¡¯s the problem the list member is having and if anyone knows anything about this I¡¯d appreciate the help. Thanks. Patty L. You could suggest that people use advanced preferences so that they just get the first message in any thread. The individual member can then decide to follow that thread if they wish.?
Works for for people who don¡¯t want a huge amount of email. I use it for this group! Frances |
