groups [member management vs overthrow]

Marvin Hunkin

Hi. Got a hyperthetical. Let¡¯s say mike, has a beef with a owner of a group. And then has tried to contactthe ?and the admin. But not talking to him. Is there a way for let¡¯s say mike or larry or joe to be able to take over the current group from the current owner, and let¡¯s call him bill. So, is there a way, or this is not built into groups.io. just curious.

And also are there redundancies against say ?hackers who would want to bring trouble to groups.io, or even a denial of service attack. Just curious, as interested in network security.

Thanks.malicious owner

Re: Invitations to subgroups

The FAQ says:
Subgroups
Groups.io supports subgroups. A subgroup is a group within another group. When viewing your group on the website, you can create a subgroup by clicking the 'Subgroup' tab on the left side. The email address of a subgroup is of the form [email protected].
?
Subgroups have all the functionality of normal groups, with the exceptions that to be a member of a subgroup, you must be a member of the parent group, and you cannot invite people to join subgroups.
?
Once a person is a member of the parent group, they can subscribe directly to the subgroup if it's permitted, they can be added directly to the subgroup, or they can ask to join the subgroup if it is restricted.

So, does this mean that if you have a Premium or Enterprise group (i.e. not free), you can direct add members to a subgroup. I wish that the FAQ was clearer about what was available in basic and what was available with paid groups.

And it might be helpful if people used a hashtag to say whether their group is basic, premium or enterprise. The advice may be different.

Unfortunately, no. The latest info on this can be found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8009

In an active group some orphaned messages is unavoidable (unless you put both groups on moderation). You could try a second transfer asking for just the message archive to come over again, but if people have subsequently made any posts to your GIO group, the affected message numbers will remain out of sequence. That's your best-case scenario.

Bruce?

Perhaps it would be clearer as "Delete Completed Transfer Request"

Acceptance time frame for [email protected] account #transfer

Hi all,

What is the present time frame for accepting the invite of the transfer account from a yahoo group?

A request was sent earlier this week from Losmandy_users yahoo group but has yet accepted.

Thanks

Liam

Re: [email protected] not working for me

Thanks for the updates and explanations.? Do you have an update on the backlog?? My in-process button still says: "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." after clicking...

Re: Changing the font in email footers

In a word, No.? All of that is controlled by the site.? There have been discussions on the Beta group about changes, but nothing so far.

Changing the font in email footers

Chris V

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the email footer. I know you can add additional content but I would like to make it a bit smaller.

Perhaps by reducing the font size or rearranging the links.

Chris

"Delete Completed Transfer"

Prasad Agrahar

While I waiting for the acceptance of the invite from the group that I am waiting to transfer I have been frequently checking the "In Process" status of the group. In my case it shows two groups that have been completed and one is under processing. Out of curiosity I selected the group that has already been completed and I see a red button saying?"Delete Completed Transfer". I am tempted to click this button but I want to make sure if just deletes the listing from the process queue only and not the group.?

Thanks
Prasad

Re: Photo resizing

There are 2 options in the Settings menu under the Photos section, one for uploaded and one for email.? You'd need to set both of those to 1024.? One thing I'm not 100% sure about is what happens if the photo is an attachment to an email instead of inline.? I think it goes through as sent and is not resized, but maybe someone else has tried it.? (I don't allow attachments in my groups, so can't check.)

APPROVING OWNERS POSTS ISSUES

James KB7TBT

I have my group set to "Approve all posts" and it keeps making me approve my own posts. I have clicked "Approve Sender" many many times and still nothing. It sends me the entire post back to me to be approved in an email, i dont need my files to keep coming back at me over and over.

Re: Missed out a few messages #transfer

Mark,

I'm in a similar situation with our group transfer of over 8 500 members and over 148 000 messages - we're missing the last few days worth of messages, around 50.

I've had a ticket opened with [email protected]?which is still in-progress.

If I hear anything more about this, I'll let you know.

Best regards,

Matt H

Invitations to subgroups

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Folks,

I¡¯m curious if there is a way to tailor invitations to sub-groups so that an invitee can only join a subset of the subgroups of a main group. I understand that you must be a member of the main group to be a member of any subgroup, but right now, it appears that the only way to allow membership to a subset of subgroups is to invite to the main group and then, after the member joins that, either allow them to join the groups you want them in, and reject their attempts to join the others, or open subgroups under Admin and check the appropriate boxes. Note that I realize that the groups all have to require permission to join to have any hope of keeping people out of places that they don¡¯t belong.

As best I can tell, other then requiring approval to join and rejecting the request, there isn¡¯t any way to specifically invite to a subgroup and restrict other subgroups from that member¡ right?

And just so you understand, let me explain the situation. In the interests of consolidating the administrative mailing lists for our organization (The Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society) I created a main admin list with subgroups for our Board of Directors, Modeling Committee, Paint Committee, etc¡ ?Some discussions are confidential and members of one committee should not necessarily be able to see the discussions of the others. That works great with the structure of making the posts private to the subgroup¡ but it¡¯s the process of membership of subsets of those groups that is the issue.

Regards

Bruce

Is it possible, either by itself or hiding Group Information - at least from the public?

Thanks

Missed out a few messages #transfer

My group's just finished its automated transfer from Yahoo! Groups, but it's a fairly big group (7000 members, over 80?000 messages) and this took several days. About four days' of recent messages to the old Y!g have not been copied to Groups.io, maybe 20 posts altogether. Is there a reasonably simple way to copy these, preserving dates and so on?

My two best guesses are to request another transfer, of just messages; or to ask [email protected] to do some magic. I would do this by hand if I knew a way of getting messages out of the Y! system and into a format such as .mbox which might be uploaded to Groups.io.

Now that the transfer is done, the old Y!Group won't need to accept any new messages. This request is not going to become a habit.

Photo resizing

I have set my group to resize photos to 1024x1024, but we have phots getting through which are bigger.

Thanks Duane. ?We actually settled on 1024 for file photos and larger for emailed photos (for now, at least.).?
