Re: Date format in email calendar reminders

Bob,

3.?????? select a particular date format in the Group¡¯s settings, then my vote goes to

Mark has said pretty clearly that he won't be changing to a different single format. Rather an option for format would be added. I believe that it would be an account option (per member) like Timezone, not a per group option.

Re: Date format in email calendar reminders

I have had calendars that allow you to choose. When creating my profile here, I thought that I chose my date and time region, but maybe I'm wrong. I know for sure I chose my time in my profile. Why not have the same choice of date display, in?everyone's profile. That would solve the situation for everyone. Whatever their choice is, that would show in any of their groups and everyone would be happy. It's doable.

I feel your frustration guys! I am feeling it all over through many of?the groups that are still there and asking me how to move here. I think if I had no other choice but to go back to Yahoo Groups, I would simply close my groups down. Never again do I want to feel that kind of frustration!

I've invited [email protected] to our Yahoo group twice now, and it doesn't seem to be working. For that matter, none of my emails are going through to the Yahoo groups list, so I'm worried that Yahoo is entirely dead at this point. I'm thinking of just starting a new group, and hopefully reaching a majority of the old list via private emails, FB, and other social networking by each other.

?

If I just start a new group, and Yahoo comes back up eventually and does the transfer, what will happen? Will the transfer overwrite the new members? Will we have duplicates?

I'm SO frustrated that I can't even communicate with our mailing list at all right now.

I apologize. I should have answered your other questions. If you create a group and have your members sub themselves, the transfer will not overwrite them. The transfer recognizes each member by their email address. However if they subscibe with a different email address, they may end up subbed twice, so if you contact your members to sub themselves, be sure to let them know to use the same email address they used at Yahoo groups.
?
Yahoo groups is not completely dead. I am still getting the occasional email from there. Not many, but some.

I can add ?allview=1 to the URL parameters to get the buttons, but this seems very odd.

I don't see that effect with GMF's messages. What were you looking at when you did that (topic list, topic, message list, message)?

Hi Mark,

As Duane mentioned this topic has been raised as - HERE. Pity it's taking so long to change what I would think is a simple enhancement (but I'm no programmer (;>)

It is a bit infuriating in my subject lines I have to preface with a European date to make sure the members of my Groups (amateur radio - and times - 24hr clock in Z/UTC/GMT) can recognise the date format correctly 01/06/18 - 1st of June or 6th January? Of course the 1st of June from our perspective.

And a last, a lot of progressive on-line sites are starting to adopt the standard for dating format YY/MM/DD/M and no AM/PM just 24hrs.

Cheers

Re: Date format in email calendar reminders

Sharon,

The ISO is not common in the US.

I started using a 6-digit format, eg 180424 back in the mid '70s because it fit well when formatting lists for computer terminals and printers that had tab stops preset every 8 columns. I knew we chose YYMMDD so that any dumb text sort on that column would be chronological. Little did I know that years later that would be an accepted short format in ISO-8601. Alas it was removed in 2004 (too much concern for Y2K issues?)..
?
Most people associate with the military, and even worse with the militant white-supremicist groups that seem to think using the 24 hour clock makes them sound super tough and in the know.

Yikes. The military yes, but I never heard of the latter. Ironic given that it is an ISO standard - "I" standing for International.

My primary association is humorous - XKCD:

On the other hand, even though my father was 30 years in the USMC and I have no problem using 24-hour time, I still think in AM/PM by habit.

Hi Rosalee! For free groups, you are allowed 1 gb of storage. I have an Incredimail group. I have learned that the best thing to do to prevent buildup of space on the server is to go into your admin to settings and disable photos because everything because everything with graphics attached has the graphics automatically dumped into a folder in photos. Also in the admin, there is place under Message Formatting in the admin that you can set to "delete old attachments". Those two settings will help.

Thanks, Toby and Shal,

this could be a temporary solution. I could have thought about that myself. Or using two browsers could be another option.

Hi Toby,

?

I posted a suggestion on this topic here - ? I¡¯ve completed my amendments of my database for now and yes, I found using the back button did help.

?

Sue

?

>I agree that it does not work well.? the path of edit/update should leave you on the same page containing the record just edited.? In fact, I would suggest that the Update button save the data and return to the page displaying the record, not to any list page.
I have found that using the browser back button a couple times gets me back to the list page I was on.??
I did not see a feature request addressing this issue ->?
Might have been discussed before but couldn't find any post about it here or in?

Re: Trnasferring Photos From Yahoo #transfer

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

For my YG lists that allowed them, photos in messages were transferred.

Total photo storage in one list went from 6.7 GB to 660MB by reducing the max photo size to 1024x1024 pixels for photos and files and to 488x488 pixels for messages.? 1024pixels is pretty much full height on my 27" monitor (between the task bars), so should be a workable size of up to 99% of viewers.

YG did not update photo owners e-mail addresses as they did track ownership by e-mail address.? If the photo owner had changed e-mail addresses inthe last 19 years, common on a lot of lists, then the new groups.io list owner became the new photo owner.? Changing ownership back to the new e-mail address of the original photo owner would be a nice improvement, vis a vis deletion and reloading.

Re: Group Approval

It's usually pretty quick but, right now, Mark is on vacation so it may take a bit longer.

"Description:I will be on vacation starting Monday, April 23, returning on Thursday, May 2nd. I will be monitoring the site as normal, except for a few times when I'm on planes or otherwise out of cell/Internet coverage. During those times, a friend of mine will be monitoring the site. Replies to support emails will be delayed during this time. Also, group transfers will be delayed as well."

Re: File Editing very troublesome

Victoria,

Or is there a trick I haven?t found yet?

My trick for situations like that is to open the item in a browser tab (use Ctrl+Shift+LeftClick instead of just LeftClick, in most browsers - specifically in Firefox and Edge). I do that reflexively anytime I expect I'll want to come back to the original page. That way the original page stays open and scrolled to where I left it. When I'm done with the item I don't care where the site takes me, I close that tab and go back to the original page. Perfect for managing items from a list page, or reading references in an article, or anytime you want to go do something then come back.

I wish I knew a trick for that on mobile...
