Marina,
I'd like to have just one reminder sent to the group. But all I getUnchecking "Send Notice when Event happens" should have prevented the second, #cal-notice, from being sent. Works for me anyway. Though there have been some bugs reported involving updates (edits) to repeating events, so maybe this is something to have [email protected] take a look at for you. Stan,
If I made all members of the subgroup, they would be getting emails ofIn the subgroup's Settings page you could alter the Default Sub Settings to make their default Email Delivery be No Email (or Special Notices Only). Or Daily Summary might be appropriate. Or, leave it at Individual Messages and use Message Selection instead. Following Only plus Auto Follow Replies would mean they'd get email replies to any posts or replies they make in the subgroup. Which may pleasantly surprise (or just confuse). Re: Welcome letters
Pamela,
Now when a new member accepts the invitation and joins the group, aIt is one of the Member Notices. Go to the Settings page of your group and click the button of that name. That should bring up a list with at least that one message listed. Probably only that one initially. Click on its name to open and edit it. When finished click on the blue Update Notice button at the bottom. Or you could stop it from being sent by unchecking the "Active Message" box. You probably want to explore the other types of Member Notices that are available to you. /static/help#membernotices Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Deleting folders

Margaret,
I am on a laptop running Windows XP. I assume the trash can isYes. Each of those icons should have a hover text if you hover the cursor over them - Edit (pad and pencil), Move (scissors), Delete (trashcan) and Report File (flag). If you hover in the blanks space to the right of the scissors (about as far as the distance from the pad and pencil to the scissors) does the hover text for Delete show up? And if you click in that empty space do you get the delete confirmation pop-up? I'm just wondering if the functions aren't available to you, or if it is just the icons that are missing from your display. Kind of a long shot, but I otherwise don't see why you'd be allowed to Move but not Delete - and everyone should see the Report File flag. Bryan,
However, now that I go into the group, there are no messages startingI don't know what might have happened, but if those messages are on the Y!Group but not on the Groups.io group I'd write to [email protected] to see if there's anything to be done about it. Are you running Windows?? You might try Ctrl and the minus/hyphen symbol.? This should reduce the size of the window contents so you can see the entire window.? I find that recent website design often neglects to scale windows properly to the size of screen or browser window that the content is being viewed with.? Consequently edges of pages get cut off without the user having any idea they aren't seeing the whole page.? Ctrl + and Ctrl - are useful to enlarge or reduce the font size or other elements on a webpage.? If it works properly, the text is re-flowed (if that's the right term) and the other page elements are adjusted to accommodate it.? Similarly, is the window you are viewing with maximized to your screen size?? In a similar situation, I couldn't find a button on an app until I maximized the window, even though the window I was using was only pixels smaller that the maximized view.? Some of these things depend on the device you are using, I think. Hope this helps. -- Susanne At 2018-02-27 03:38 PM, A and M Parker wrote: Two things for the new owner to try: |

Welcome letters
I just started a new private group. When there were no members of the group but me, I changed the group's name.?
Now when a new member accepts the invitation and joins the group, a Welcome letter is automatically sent to them with the old, wrong group name and hence, wrong email address. Re: Non-Subscribers
Hi Stan,
I have all but one of my groups to allow non-members to post. These are all unmoderated except for first post. This allows someone to send an email to the group who isn¡¯t a member - and I get to decide if it will be allowed or not. Of course, if they wish to regularly post, they need to join. And they don¡¯t get a response, I am fairly sure. The transmission is only one way. They can post but they don¡¯t see any replies. Why do I have it set to this? I have a family group site of about 25 people but sometimes someone else wants to write something to the rest of us. Say, our Irish cousin. He can do that. I can moderate it and it will be sent on to the members of my group. Or someone forgets and posts from another email address. (Of course they can edit their account to allow alternative addresses to be used, but they don¡¯t necessarily do this.) In this case, they would see responses because they are a member, just sending from a non-registered email address. I hope I haven¡¯t confused you! The main thing - these are unmoderated groups but the occasional non-member might post and I approve it if appropriate. I could also follow up with an invitation to join. Or a suggestion that they add that email address to their account. Frances |

Stan, if you go to:
/search You can see all the public groups. I am a co-owner of a public group with private archive. You must be a member to read the posts. I also have a few private ones not listed in the directory since they are just for a specific group. Frances [link simplified by moderator] |
