Re: Problems with Women Writers through the Ages @ Yahoo
Ellen,
For now I want to send this message here, which I also sent to theBeta is the official "suggestion box" for Groups.io. It is the place to suggest changes, new features or enhancements to the Groups.io service. It has nothing to do with transferring your Yahoo Group. I've just joined the groups.io page set up. I was using the wordThat's certainly apt here in the GMF group (and for unoffical replies in beta). The "instructions" are on the transfer pages and the help pages. I looked at everything and am not sure what to do next.Read the instructions: /static/yahootransfer Step 0: create your group. Before the transfer can begin you need to create a group on Groups.io into which your Yahoo Group members and content will be copied. This step allows you to choose the name your group will have on Groups.io, which does not have to be the same as the name on Yahoo. It also lets you set up the group's home page, a Welcome message, Guidelines, and any other content in your new group which you may want to have in place before you initiate the transfer. Step 1: Invite the user [email protected] to join your Yahoo Group. That email address is how you will communicate with Groups.io during the transfer process. After it accepts the invitation and is a member of your Yahoo Group you'll need to promote it to moderator - it is through that moderator position that Groups.io gains access to your Yahoo Groups's content. When you promote it to moderator you don't need to give it any privileges as it will take no actions other than copying members and content. Is my [group] moved over as yet:? If so, where is it?You'd know if it were, after emails from [email protected]. Shal |
Re: Changing the wording of messages and pages
Sharon,
... when on announcement lists any response will get you unsubscribed.Huh? This is not automatically true. And would seem a strange thing for a moderator to do. In my PTA Announcement Group I have the Reply To option set to "Moderators" - so any member's reply goes to the group's +owner address (which is forwarded to me and the moderators of the group). Re: Ease of transfer of group from Yahoo? Capacity at IO?

Michelle,
Dear IO and Dear Group Managers,For the record, Groups.io is not here - this is a volunteer-run help group. Groups.io has the official groups update and beta, plus email support at [email protected] 2. What implications for the member? They will receive a welcome notice from Groups.io, and optionally one you set up before the transfer to be sent to them. Most of their subscription settings (Individual/Digest etc.) will be copied over from their Yahoo Group settings. Especially, will they have to create a new account here,Only for web access to members-only areas of your group. Fortunately the process is very simple. or if they to date have been only using the YahooGroup via their emailThe members will immediately begin receiving group messages (per their subscription settings for Individual/Digest/Special/None) and may immediately begin posting by email - no verification step needed for that. 3. If *everyone* having trouble at YahooGroups is getting the sameGroups.io buys web service and storage from large web services companies, so I think the capacity can expand dynamically as needed. As I understand it there is some manual involvement by support (Mark) in setting up and starting each transfer, so he may be getting a bit busy. Shal |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMichelle -
I have moved three of my own groups (one with extensive message archives)?and oversaw the moves of a number more. The most difficult thing was to remember to make the 'transfer' email address a moderator of your Yahoo group. To be honest, I think it takes longer to explain the process than it does to do it. If there are problems afterward, use the help email and Mark can straighten out about anything. I'm sure it's even smoother since I moved my groups.
?
As for the members, most of mine never noticed. I had to remind them to change their address books to show the new group address and to send messages to the correct address, but otherwise there was nothing but praise from most of them. I left my old Yahoo groups running but set to full moderation so I could catch those who forgot.
?
If you run into any problems with managing the move or dealing with issues that may arise, bring them here to this group. I would guess there are already thousands of groups that have moved, and waiting will only risk losing your information if Yahoo finally scuttles itself.

Dear IO and Dear Group Managers, Serious question -- with the current system outage over at YahooGroups, I am seriously considering moving my Yahoo Groups here, as there have been positive reviews. Several questions --? 1.? Is it easy to transfer the groups? 2.? What implications for the member?? Especially, will they have to create a new account here, or if they to date have been only using the YahooGroup via their email to send and receive messages, will it be a seamless transfer with no verification step necessary? 3.? If *everyone* having trouble at YahooGroups is getting the same advice, to transfer to Groups.io, how is capacity?? Are you going to be able to handle the deluge? Many many thanks, I may make the move in the next few hours... Michelle (moderator in Geneva, Switzerland) |

Re: Problems with Women Writers through the Ages @ Yahoo
I've done that and still get people trying to join the old group. Guess they can't read the we've moved message on the Yahoo page.
I just send an invitation from the new group and follow that up with a personal email explaining the move. Donald On November 23, 2017 3:45:43 AM "Cecil Bayona" <cecil.bayona@...> wrote: Simple enough on the old group you can turn off the ability for persons [excess quotes trimmed by moderator] |

Problems with Women Writers through the Ages @ Yahoo
Thank you, David. I believe we know one another: your Yahoo group was
the one where you sent important news stories. I will ask how to make it public or ask where are the instructions. Is there then an archive at the public place? I hope instructions will say where and how. I have saved countless postings by myself and others over the years on my own computer. It's good to meet again. This is cheering on what else would be a hard Thanksgiving day for me. I'm a widow and since my husband's death (4 years ago) myself and one day spend the day together. We have a chicken and go to a movie. I keep in mind Mary Lady Montagu's cheering words over a dinner with a friend: but when the long hours of Public are past And we meet with Champaigne and a Chicken at last .... Mark Fletcher will work with you to transfer your archives, picture files and perhaps your link files. Sal and others and of course Mark himself can give you more information about what can be transfered and how it is done.

Mark Fletcher, who created Onelist which was sold to Yahoo and became Yahoo Groups, is the sole owner, as far as I know, of Groups.IO and he created this service in September 2014. Google, as far as I know, has nothing to do with Groups.IO. Most owners let their membership know about the change and let them know why. Mark will transfer the content for you from what I have been reading. Since you have much valuable information in your archives, you may want to consider making your list public in Groups.IO. I have had huge problems with Yahoo Groups over the years, but I have had no real problems with Groups.IO since I started my first group in Groups.IO in October 2014 and other groups later. Since you cannot post to Yahoo Groups at this time, it would not hurt to keep an archive there and make Groups.IO your active group. I hope that these ideas help.
Hopefully, you did not delete your posts from your groups in your Gmail account so you have your content archived in your Gmail account sent mail. I hope that these thoughts help you. Re: Changing the wording of messages and pages
I would like a fully customizable invitation message. Suggesting things is great but a form letter is so formal and it is so detailed that it confuses people because it isn¡¯t like the conversation the person and I have had leading up to it. It isn¡¯t like the messages I write that encourage people to join. Suddenly they are in IRS land. Most people, frankly, are used to it but it would be nicer if the manager could write a message that fits the situation.
For an announcement list, I can see why it would be totally confusing, and would infer that people could respond when on announcement lists any response will get you unsubscribed. Sharon ---- Sharon Villines [email protected] |
