Re: Massive Bouncing Members Conundrum
Hi Andy,
?
Hadn't noticed that before, checked membership list & it says we have 6,171 members, while our group homepage shows 2,978 members.
So, I'm guessing that none of the 3,193 bounced receive anything from the group, and there is no way to ascertain if they're?still bouncing,
if they were bounced some time ago.?
?
Now my question is, do I just delete all of the "bounced" members, as technically they're not actually members anymore? |

Maybe Mark has changed the time for summaries to be sent out.? It could also be related to the 'fix' he made for something else, so a real bug.

Re: Daily Summary email delivery issue?
I see that a Daily Summary for both of the groups I help moderate went out just after midnight this morning. ?To clarify the message that went out just after midnight was 42 hours after the prior daily summary? - at least for me in EDT.? ?For me, they did not include the activity for the 18th of March that would have been included in the usual morning summary at 6am but it gets us back on track.? I appreciate the help and the affirmation with comments by others that we were not the only ones impacted.?
?
I am not an IT subject matter expert but used the tools that I am familiar with to check what I could before posting the question to this group.? I checked activity logs to make sure there were new messages to generate a Daily Summary.? One of my groups can sometimes go a day or so with no messages so if there were no new messages I would let them know there wasn't a daily summary.?
?
I also checked "email delivery status" when the first person who asked.? The way I checked that was go to member page (drop down from their name or searing in member list) for the person reporting the issue.? First check their email settings - to make sure they hadn't changed them, confirming they were set for Daily Summary.? Then I checked email delivery history - from the drop down under their name.? Did they get a daily summary with a message like "OK" or "Queued for delivery"?? That should mean they should have gotten morning email if it indicated "delivered", "OK" or "queued for delivery" or similar I would have advised the member to check spam folder because email providers/clients can change their spam rules any time.? If they found the message in spam I would suggest they mark "not spam" immediately so as not to jeopardize future deliveries.? ?In this case there was record of any mail deliveries nor any bouncing status for the people I spot checked, including me and another moderator.? I checked folks on multiple time zones in US and saw no one set for "daily summary" had any delivery or any rejected delivery.??
?
Frank, I hope my description helps with your question on troubleshooting.
?
Duane,? should I as a moderator report this as a bug?? If you mean I am not presently a member of that group.? I asked here because I thought if it was a known issue this was the best place to find out.??
?
Thanks everyone for your help.

Is there a link I could put in an email /on a website that people could just click on to request to subscribe? Not without providing their email address.

Some folks use the "promote" code found at https: //groups.io/g/GROUPNAME/promote and put that on their web site. But they will have to type in their email address, either manually or by autofill. [Note: Typos when using this code are a significant source of bogus accounts that languish in "Not Confirmed" status.]
?
A "mailto:" link to the +subscribe address automatically populates their email address, but also launches their email program. They don't have to type anything, but do have to send the message. Still, I have found this to be the easiest way.?
?
You can also just provide a link to the group home page and ask them to click the join button when they get there. If already logged in to groups.io, they won't have to enter an email address. If not, they will be prompted for one.
?
The only way to provide one-click signup is to send them an invitation.

Can you explain what you mean by 'lost'? Have they been removed from your group and have you checked the member list and activity log to verify that?? Bouncing members will not be removed from your group just because they are bouncing so they should still be on your member list. However, they will no longer count towards your member total shown on your group home page. Is that what you are looking at?
?
That won't make a difference. There are members here on GMF who are in a bouncing state and they have their delivery preference set to No Email. Remember that bouncing is an account level state so issues delivering messages from other groups they are subscribed to could affect that.
As I mentioned, bouncing members will not be removed from your group because their account in a bouncing state.
Please check your member list and activity log to verify details.

Massive Bouncing Members Conundrum
G'day,
?
My group lost 1,313 members this morning (AEDT) in one go, almost 31% of our members, through "Bouncing via system".
?
I did a random check of the various members bounced, and they all had on thing in common, which was: Email Delivery set to, "Special Notices Only".
?
Why the apparent sudden purge of this group of members? There was no other commonality I could find between them other than this preference setting.
?
I did check the FAQs on Bouncing but, it doesn't cover this sort of event, and given the large number bounced in one hit, it doesn't make sense.
?
?
NB: When we moved from Yahoo Groups, we went from just under 10K members, to around 6.5K, which we were expecting. Since then, we've lost (probably) close
to two thirds of the remaining membership through Bouncing. It sort of feels like a slow death of many thousand cuts.

Have you looked at Promote in Admin, Preferences??
?
Here's the Help page mentioning Promote - /helpcenter/manual/ownersmanual/groupprocedures/group_promoting.htm
?
Please check whether the signup form would work for you.?
I have not used it for my own groups, so no first hand experience.?
?
Any feedback on this, group members?

Re: link to subscribe
The OP was asking for a subscription link she could send out in an email that someone could click on to subscribe, not an email address someone could send? email to to subscribe.
?
Frances showed an example, but it is not clear to me how it was implemented, or even whether it implemented within the framework or elsewhere.
