As a workaround, I granted my moderators all permissions, including that of appointing other moderators. So they will be able to run the group in any circumstance. I'd rather keep the Owner status,

I suggest this "workaround" actually works well for most Groups. I can't imagine many instances of malicious intent within the "mutual interest" universe of Groups.IO; I wouldn't want to be a member
