It is a bit hard to find - in the Owners manual in Help. All the way at the bottom in Additional Information. Same in Members manual in Help.

/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/additional-information/member-badges-and-topic-icons?

/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/additional-information/member-badges-and-topic-icons

It would be useful if the page was linked in Glossary -?/helpcenter/glossary

The only one that should be pink (orchid) is NC.? The P means they're not moderated and can always post (as long as it's not an announcement group.)? The system setting for the P is capri blue.

It looks to me like you would use sub_poststatus_notallowed for the post_status parameter.? I don't use the API so not sure if you'd need to do an Update after adding them.

API: Can a member be Direct Added via the API with 'Override: not allowed to post' set

Hi - I have looked through the API docs and I can't find it which seems odd. I want to be able to add members via the API from an external CMS; it works fie for most subscribers who are given full access, but we have a class of subs who should only have read-only access (i.e. they have 'Override: not allowed to post' set). Is it possible to achieve this via the API? Or is it likely to be in future?
Thanks!,
Richard

Re: As an owner/moderator can I see digest messages if I do not receive digests?

"even Thunderbird in the message reading pane" - at least Thunderbird allows you to rearrange the buttons to avoid the issue!

You got good answers already but I wanted to add that you can remind the member they can view the messages on the group site in order to catch up. They can change the view to read them by Topic, Messages or Expanded.

It's not just Yahoo, it others do too, AOL, Gmail, even Thunderbird in the message reading pane, thankfully there's an add-on that allows you to change that.? Outlook.com at least places the Archive button in between them two.

At some point in time in the past some UI guru thought it would be a great idea to have them right to each other and it has unfortunately stuck and propagated.

What Bruce said, but I'll add it really wouldn't matter what was in the message.
Here's why.

You mention they have Yahoo email. If they're using the Yahoo Mail phone app,
it's notorious for having the delete message button next to the spam button.
I've had members accidentally press the spam button when they only wanted to
delete the (already read) message. That triggers the feedback loop and
unsubscribes them.

I don't have the image handy but one member took a screen capture of those
buttons and they are indeed very close to each other, making it all too easy to
tap the wrong one.

If they're not using that app, then they allowed a GIO message to remain in
their spam folder long enough that Yahoo deleted it and triggered the feedback
loop, or they did actually mark the message as spam. They should be able to
train the email system to recognize GIO messages as not spam by dragging the
message from the spam folder into the inbox, or by whitelisting GIO messages if
that's what's happening.

My guess, though, is that they're using the app and they tapped the wrong
button.

Unfortunately, no.

Group owners often assume that everyone receives the same digest at the same time. But digests are actually specific for each individual, based both on their time zone (i.e.: what messages have accumulated before 6 AM local time) and when they started receiving them.

If you were to switch to digest mode today, your first one would be Digest #1, not 480.

Bruce

Merging threads

Hi all

I have a problem when trying to merge two threads.? The system seems to have hung on one particular merge (which did work OK) and when I try to start a new merge, it just refers back to the original thread that I wanted to merge.??
I even tried creating a dummy thread so I could clear the merge, but when I try it just goes to a blank screen.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Rejected messages marked as spam from non-members #non-members #restricted

Bob,

In this case, there is no interest in adding these emailers to the group membership.

The Groups.io group is for a small core group that are elected to take responsibility for the organization as a whole. However the small group wish to be able to receive emails in their groups.io account which have been forwarded from their email address.

The email integration seems to be working!

Re: Rejected messages marked as spam from non-members #non-members #restricted

Frances,
In our Premium Group, screen people after receiving an application.
At the same time our Application form generates a welcome email to an integration point in the group which is moderatedd.
If, after reviewing the application, they are considered ok,the moderator Direct Enrolls the person and unmoderates the pre built "please welcome (given name, city, state, counttry), who wishes to "yada'yada". which cues members to welcome them to the group.

Re: Rejected messages marked as spam from non-members #non-members #restricted

Bruce,

Thanks, setting up an integration for outside emails from an email address works beautifully. Basically it forwards mail to the Groups.io account from that outside email address and then is moderated as selected.

Re: Problem with replies #question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Nichole,

This looks to me like the person (or email client) replying added a second instance of the #introduction hashtag to the message subject, that would create a separate topic thread as the subjects don't match anymore.

Do this, in that message with the double #introduction in the subject you posted in the screenshot, click on the More menu and select View Source.? Scroll down until you find the Subject: header.? I have a feeling it will either say,
Subject: Re: #introduction #introduction
or with no Re:,
Subject: #introduction #introduction
You would then need to contact that member and find out what they did which caused the double hashtag in their reply.

I second Bruce's suggestion of adding a group subject tag it makes things easier for email users who subscribe to more than one group.

Cheers,
Christos

Picture below of reply to original post with the #introduction to show you an example. You can see it is split off the original thread even though it is a reply and for some reason groups.io made the subject #introduction#introduction.

The last picture is of the #introduction settings (sorry I couldn't get it all in the screen shot).

Nichole -- Try as I might, I am unable to make this happen.?

What email client are you using to reply? Does it happen when you reply using the web interface? Does it happen with everyone, or just select people??
?
The only thing I can suggest at this point is to create a Subject Tag for the group. That will put something in the subject line of emails (in addition to the lone #introduction hashtag), and maybe that will help any misbehaving software to play more nicely with each other. But I have to acknowledge that's nothing more than a wild guess.
