I'm not sure we can answer that question! That said consider the following points: (a) Do you use groups.io by email or the web UI? (b) If your email was "down" then anything sent to you would not arrive. (c) Do you monitor this group (GMF) as a matter of routine or only when something of immediate interest to you arises? (d) How much traffic does your group generate?

Where can I go in Gio to find out if this happened to those in my group?

How about your Activity log? (Look for Bounced and Unbounced as Actions.) And your own Email Delivery History, along with those of a random sample of your members who have gmail or googlemail addresses.

Re: BOUNCING

You have to go to your account?at . If you see pink box, you haven't clicked to "UNbounce your email addy for all the lists you are subscribed to.

I sent a message to 4 of my lists and most didn't even know they missed messages until they logged in to see the pink box at top.

And a bonanza here, doing so they have been cleared to post without first moderation.

Yes...every subscriber that goes into Pending status is sent a Pending Subscription notice.

New Membership Subscriptions via Email Subscription Address #membershiprequest

I have a question about the email subscription address that is added on all group's? Home page:? Subscribe: [email protected].? If someone clicks on this and submits an email subscription request, are they also sent the automatic Member Notice that we can set up to be sent to all pending subscriptions?? We try to screen all prospective list members by setting up that "Pending Subscription" notice, and have them answer a couple of list-related questions.? Trying to screen out list spammers.? But, I am concerned that people who try to subscribe via that email subscription option will NOT get this automated Pending Subscription message.? If they do not, is they a way to remove that Subscribe email from our Home page so it's not an option?? I still wish that Mark would allow us to set up a questionnaire at the "Join Group" page, that forces a prospective list member to answer questions we can set up.? A feature that can be turned on if a list owner would like.? Yahoo Groups had this option, and it was seamless - a new prospective list member couldn't even submit the membership request without answering the questions.? The way we have it now is hit and miss.?

I'd say the main difference is that you must be logged in to participate in a chat, and anything typed into one isn't sent out as emails.?Chat discussions also generally occur in real time, and the associated messages tend to be short (kinda like Twitter), although you don't have to use them like that.

Think "telephone conference," but you're typing instead of talking.

No, that should work.? For your particular group, it would be [email protected]? If they send an email to that address, they should go onto the Pending Subscription list.

Both and are owned by Virgin Media.? You may have to contact them to see what's going on.? It appears that they may not allow outside email, but only they know for sure.

The folks that want to be members can use the +subscribe address to apply.? You could also upgrade to Premium for a month to Direct Add them to the group.

Not with "aspf" set to relaxed, which was determined after testing. The only other choices for "p" are "quarantine" and "none", neither of which were acceptable to us.

That's a good idea. I'll ask him about that. I suppose that's what happened. I do change an email address, from time to time, for some of my members who aren't very good about working with computers. But most of my members aren't connected with any other groups.io mailing lists. (I think moderators must be aware that a person can't change an email address without affecting all the groups to which that person belongs. There's a prominent notice to that effect on the member's "subscription" record:)

Note: Changing this email address changes the email address for this person's account, affecting all of their other subscriptions.

Thanks.

If you have a gmail account, you may get these bouncing messages. I got two myself today,
and had to 'unbounce' on the site 3 times!

Re: Odd message

Tim,

Got a note on a group, where I am co-admin - which said go to my
groups.io account settings and do something about unbouncing -
The notice is probably moot now. There were service disruptions at Gmail on Monday and Tuesday that caused many hundreds of users' email addresses to be put on Bouncing status.

Yesterday, after the dust settled, Groups.io reset the bouncing status on affected Gmail and Googlemail addresses.

didn't find such but did find this in recent bounces - 12/14 from this
group (#35556 [GMF] Help with emails sent not showing up I am the
moderator of the group).
GMF was rather active both days, so a message from us would have been fairly likely to be the trigger for your address to be set to Bouncing status if your Gmail address was affected by the service disruption.

On 12/15 one came in for one of the groups I do manage - but best I
can tell it doesn't show an email address that may have bounced?
I'm not sure what you mean. "One" what came in? If you get a notice that your account is bouncing then it is your address, not anyone else's, that is affected.

What gives?
/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/additional-information/groups-io-bounce-handling

In the parlance of that page, the Gmail service disruption was causing "Hard" bounces, such that the first instance would immediately put the member's account into "Bouncing" status (Step 2).

This evening I don't find a message in this group with that and better yet I'm not even sure why I got such a bounce.

all right...I gave in and copied and pasted the names into the Direct Add box and added them that way.? Duplicates were ignored.? So I'm not sure why my bulk add didn't work but at least now I'm where I need to be.

Nothing?relative to the bulk upload is indicated in the Activity.
The format of this file is vary particular. It must be plain text,?with each entry separated by a carriage return; and must have one address per line, with no extra whitespace.

Rather than continue to struggle with this, you might have more success simply cutting the all addresses from the file in a block and pasting them into the box.
