However, I seem to recall that early on there was substantial discussion of, and confusion about, what to do when the link takes you to a browser which /is/ logged in, but to a different address.
That seems to continue to be a source of confusion.

Both obvious options seemed like they would lead to more confusion: (a) display an error describing why the unsubscribe can't be done right now, or (b) log out the different address and then perform the unsubscribe. I don't recall whether one of those or some other approach was settled on.
This screenshot shows what actually happens (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wzrUeNMwY561yq95ojcoFnGQpGKKafUx/view?usp=sharing). I still think an mailto link to the +unsubscribe address may be more straightforward.

John,

I can¡¯t export my group. I have no management button. I even went to
all my groups list and clicked on the group name with crown next to
it.

Do I need to use a computer?
Yes, I think so.

As I recall the mobile version of Yahoo Groups included only approval of pending messages, none of the other moderator/owner functions.

And now, presumably not even that.

Re: Creating New Topic in a subgroup for main group members

Green,

Is it possible to create a New Topic in a Sub Group to send to the
main group ...
No.

To send a new topic to the primary group, create it in the primary group. New Topics and Replies created in a subgroup will be sent only to members of that subgroup.

When she creates a New Topic in the Main Group the members see here
personal email address and she would like it to be something like
Activitie.Director.
In the primary group she can edit her Profile so have "Activities Director" as her display name. But that sort of assumes she never posts to the primary group as herself or for other purposes. Switching her Display Name at need would be possible, but tedious (and error-prone).

Nor does it change the fact that her personal email address will be in the From field of messages received by email. However, many email interfaces will show the Display Name instead of or together with the actual email address, so that may not be so bad.

I thought about creating an email address for Activities but then the
members of her group could not share that address.
There are only six members in her group.
The shared address could be a member of the primary group, separate from each of those six people's personal addresses, which would be members of the Activities subgroup (and perforce the primary group as well).

I'm not a big fan of creating "shared" email addresses - it can lead to problems when one of the people doesn't play nice, or just generally in terms of accountability. I haven't looked recently, but it may also be against the terms of service for many email services.

Maybe the best answer is for each of the six to have their own second email address, for use when acting as Activity Director. Then at least you (the managers of the primary group) always know who's saying what.

Re: member unsubscribe

Stephanie,

I then tried to test the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a group
email that was sent to my secondary email. However, instead of it
unsubscribing, it took me to the web to log in.
It /should/ have taken you to the web, but it should /not/ have required you to log in.

This was in the wake of the third option, which of course was unacceptable: (c) unsubscribe whatever address happened to be logged in. This had happened during testing of a simpler version of the unsubscribe link.

You might find a workaround.
Remember that subgroup members are also members of the main group.

It isn't as simple as whoever you quoted said. Groups.io does not understand either CSV or TSV format.

After copying the list from Yahoo, you have to simplify it: remove all the extraneous information and commas or tabs. Pay attention to the formatting examples on the Invite page:

| Emails can be of the form:
|
| email@...
| Name <email@...>
|
| One email address per line.
|
| Upload Addresses
| Upload a file containing the email addresses to invite, one per line

I'll add to that: "no leading or trailing spaces, tabs, or commas".

In the correct format you can (and should) paste or upload as many addresses as you have. If that's more than 20 (in 24 hours) then there will be a delay before groups.io sends them out, but breaking the list into smaller chunks just incurs more delay.

Stephanie -- The unsub link in an email is easily clicked by accident. For that reason the link takes you to groups.io to display a page and confirm your intent to unsub.?

As to why you have to log in to get there, it's not unusual for group messages to be forwarded to others, complete with message footer. In such cases you don't want someone other than the original recipient to be able to click a footer link and unsubscribe someone else by proxy.

For those who never log in, it will probably be better to educate such folks about the availability of the +unsubscribe email address than direct them to the footer link.

Hope this helps,

We need a bit more info to give you a good answer. For example, if it is a restricted group, you can set up a pending subscription notice.

Re: time zone setting not working?

Hi Bruce,

Got it!? When I created my group (just did it this week), I set EST in default sub settings and then I joined using a secondary email to send a test message.? So if I understand correctly, because I viewed the test message through the web page using my ¡°owner¡± account, it defaulted to PST because the owner defaults to PST as one is an owner prior to configuring¡so I changed my owner account via the preferences link you provided (thanks!) and now when I add all my new ?members later this week they will default to EST.?

No need to respond if that is correct, thx.

Stephanie -- Groups do not have time zones...accounts and calendar entries do.

Events:? If you live in New York, you can set up a calendar entry for 7 PM EST (perhaps for a Zoom meeting) and it will show up correctly as 4 PM PST for a group member living in California. When you create the event, the time zone will default to that of your own account; you can override that at the time of event creation by selecting some other time zone from the pull-down menu at the top of the page.

Accounts: You set your own time zone at?/account?page=prefs?. Or you can set a default time zone for new members?of your group via the Default Sub Settings. Please understand that changing the latter entry has no effect on the time zone of any accounts that already exist. See /helpcenter/gettingstarted/1/step-4-customize-the-group-s-settings/default-email-delivery-options-and-time-date

If no such default has been set, the system default for new accounts is Pacific time. That's probably why it's showing as three hours behind. The only way to fix it is to have every current member go to?/account?page=prefs?and update their own time zone to Eastern (or whatever is appropriate for where they actually live). Your setting for Default Sub Settings should suffice for any new members.

I hope that made sense.

Regards,
Bruce

That would only set the time zone for new members that don't already have an account.? You can set your preference at /account?page=prefs for all of the groups you use.

Correct.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do this for everyone in one step.

If I understand correctly, people who are invited can join without approval, so there would be no "Pending Members" notifications for such people, is that right?
Also correct.

How to prevent join notifications during large invite #notifications #moderators #invitation

Hello everyone

I'm about to invite a bunch of people, and I don't want my moderators flooded with notifications.

Do I understand correctly that I only need to set each moderator's the "Members" notification to "None" for a few days?

If I understand correctly, people who are invited can join without approval, so there would be no "Pending Members" notifications for such people, is that right?

Thanks
