Just tested. The respondents' names do not show, even for the owner!?

Checked - Allow multiple choices.
Only moderators and poll creators can view results and responders, regardless of whether the poll is open or closed.
Checked - Only display results when the poll has closed. Moderators and poll creators can always view results.
Checked - Do not show who responded to the poll.

I see it's possible using the web interface,
That's almost certainly the best way.

but was wondering if it's possible by emailing.
Well... maybe. If the poster gets the subject line more or less completely correct and the previous post is less than 30 days old then it should thread correctly. Groups.io does its best but if the subject line is too much of a mismatch then it probably won't succeed, and the quoted figure of 30 days is a hard and fast rule; over that and it won't thread.

In your position I would recommend members to not try to play catch - up by email but to do if from the web UI.

Hi GMF,

Is it possible to configure polls to only show results but not give out information about who responded and their choices?

Thank you for your time, :)

I requested downloads from Yahoo on Oct 19 but
nothing ever happened. I have just repeated the
requests and they have been acknowledged.

Did you check your Yahoo Mail box? I made that mistake the first time and the reply had been sitting there.

I just requested a new download in case this one gets something the last one missed.

Is it possible to email an old thread by it's message number?

Hi GMF,

Is it possible to send an email to an old topic and have it be related to the topic/thread?

I see it's possible using the web interface, but was wondering if it's possible by emailing.

Can I include the message number (attached screenshot) on the subject line or something?

Thank you for your help,
Zhao

Re: Plain text only setting still includes HTML message part #settings #listmanagement

I think the plain text in admin, settings modifies Attachments, not the messages themselves.

If you want to delete colour etc. in the message itself, tick this checkbox:
Normalize HTML Emails
Strip all different fonts and colors from HTML emails.

Hope this gets at part of your problem.

Plain text only setting still includes HTML message part #settings #listmanagement

I've configured my group Messaging Formatting with only "Plain Text Only"
checks. (See attached.) This isn't working how I expected it to. A recent
message to the list [1] is showing up with HTML both on the Groups.io site
and in the copy that I received in my email. This is most obvious at the end
of the message where there is a link preview for a link to Google Groups.

I expected that by checking "Plain Text Only", that the HTML part of the
author's message would have been would have been dropped before the message
was stored in the group's archive or sent to members with email delivery
configured.

Have I misunderstood this feature? Can someone explain what it does & the
intended use?

It looks like the author of this message may have composed it in the Outlook
desktop client or with the Outlook.com web client. I can't tell from the
headers...

In the message source on Groups.io (not visible to the general public, but
at [2]), the Content-Type headers is

Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="_000_AM7PR04MB688855C84D1E91BC091B6937A4560AM7PR04MB6888eurp_"

And, indeed, there are two parts, a text/plain part and a text/html part:

--_000_AM7PR04MB688855C84D1E91BC091B6937A4560AM7PR04MB6888eurp_
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

Re: Failed transfers.....

I requested (purchased) two transfers of Yahoo groups.

Of the first (Greendel), the Yahoo membership was 991 and 436 ended up in the IO group.? Of course I was able to download the membership from Yahoo directly.

Of the second (Delaware State Freecycle) of the 9000 some members none got transferred.? And of course Yahoo limits the easy downloads to a max of 1000.

I requested downloads from Yahoo on Oct 19 but nothing ever happened.? I have just repeated the requests and they have been acknowledged.

So I am not sure what to do now.? Would people suggest buying the PGOffline product?? It triggers all sorts of "publisher unknown" warnings on my machine.? Is there another way to capature the membership list?

Have you looked at this wiki page on options?
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Moving-to-Groups.io
See also: ?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/26169

I am puzzled though - who did you purchase the two transfers from?

It is not known whether this add-on will work after Yahoo finally gets around to closing down access to group content. If I were you, I would get on top of this as soon as possible.

Re: Are other users of spectrum/charter getting this?

I've started to see some messages come through today. But not all of them.

On Dec 15, 2019, at 8:17 AM, Ken Cameron <kcameron@...> wrote:

pkvw-mx.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net: 421 p-impin016.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net

And nothing from groups.io has shown up overnight. Now, I'm seeing these via
my groups.io account 'Recent Bounces', it is logging these as bounces, but
it is not showing status as if I'm bounced. Just in case, I went to the web
side of the email and made sure that groups.io is in the safe sender list.
This started sometime on Saturday.

Since the whole charter.net cloud covers millions of users, I'm kind of at a
loss for what could I do that I haven't done already. So mostly I'm asking
to see if others are having this issue. If anyone then has clue to the fix,
that would also be good.

Re: Are other users of spectrum/charter getting this?

For several years this has been an ongoing problem with a few of the members in my groups who use Spectrum/Charter. Reminiscent of Yahoo Groups, it's a problem that doesn't seem to effect all Spectrum users, effects some Spectrum users in different ways -- some of whom say they have other problems with Spectrum, while some say they don't -- sometimes seems to clear up, only to begin reoccurring. The bottom line is, the Spectrum bouncing problem never seems to go away completely.

To paraphrase, "It's broke, but they ain't fixin' it!" LOL

The user needs to keep marking them as Not Spam and gradually the Bayesian spam detector will be re-trained to pass the messages.

pkvw-mx.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net:?421 p-impin016.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net
cmsmtp 66.175.222.12 blocked AUP#CMPOL

The service is unavailable due to a connection problem: it may refer to an exceeded limit of simultaneous connections, or a more general temporary problem.

The server (yours or the recipient's) is not available so the dispatch will be tried again later.

The 421 code--and all 4xx codes--indicate that a temporary condition exists and the delivery should be re-tried. It's annoying, but if everyone follows the rules, you will get the emails eventually.

This is different from the 5xx codes which indicate permanent errors which are not re-tried because they could never succeed. For example, 510 and 511 refer to bad email addresses.

I would like to have the default message reply to option to be ¡®reply to group¡¯ with an optional ¡®reply to group and sender¡¯.? That way if the board gets a question/issue from the club member they can discuss it within the group privately and when they come to an answer respond to the sender, but also have a copy of their formal reply to the sender retained in the subgroup (for historical context).? The board members change on a yearly basis, so in order to retain confidentiality of the internal board discussion, the default reply option should be ¡®reply to group.¡¯

?

Looking at the message reply to options in the GIO web interface, I see ¡®reply to group¡¯ and an option to select the ¡®private¡¯ button which then only replies to the sender (with the option of BCC¡¯ing the sender, but not the group).? The other option is ¡®reply to group and sender¡¯ also with the ¡®private¡¯ button, which again only replies to the sender (with the option of BCC¡¯ing the sender, but not the group). ?In the GIO web interface I don¡¯t see any option to modify the distribution list of the reply (yes, in an email client you can do this)

I thought I should check with others to see if I am missing a setting to enable this behavior, or if I should submit this as an enhancement request to the Beta group.? Seems like this would be a common use case.

?

Interesting!?

Changing reply settings to Group and Sender only gives you that one choice through the group. Not what you are looking for, I believe.

Perhaps the main issue is replying to the main group member after you have discussed it privately in the subgroup.?
If there was an extra choice for private, that would work. So not just bcc me, but another option bcc me and subgroup.
That would be clearer. And probably relatively easy change.
?
Another question - can you receive the message from the main group member, discuss it for a couple of weeks, and then go back to the first item in the topic (the message from the main group member) and then reply privately to that main group member with the optional bcc me and the group? Is there a time limit?

If instead the change was to add a reply choice through a dropdown menu between Reply to Group and Sender and just Reply to Group, you might inadvertently send something to the wrong people. The private subgroup discussion could go to the original writer who is not a member of the subgroup.?So if there would be choices about reply destination, it shouldn't be a dropdown menu, but another button. That would lessen the chance of such an error.
