I've configured my group Messaging Formatting with only "Plain Text Only"
checks. (See attached.) This isn't working how I expected it to. A recent
message to the list [1] is showing up with HTML both on the Groups.io site
and in the copy that I received in my email. This is most obvious at the end
of the message where there is a link preview for a link to Google Groups.
I expected that by checking "Plain Text Only", that the HTML part of the
author's message would have been would have been dropped before the message
was stored in the group's archive or sent to members with email delivery
configured.
Have I misunderstood this feature? Can someone explain what it does & the
intended use?
It looks like the author of this message may have composed it in the Outlook
desktop client or with the Outlook.com web client. I can't tell from the
headers...
In the message source on Groups.io (not visible to the general public, but
at [2]), the Content-Type headers is
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="_000_AM7PR04MB688855C84D1E91BC091B6937A4560AM7PR04MB6888eurp_"
And, indeed, there are two parts, a text/plain part and a text/html part:
--_000_AM7PR04MB688855C84D1E91BC091B6937A4560AM7PR04MB6888eurp_
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
--_000_AM7PR04MB688855C84D1E91BC091B6937A4560AM7PR04MB6888eurp_
Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
