I can't transfer my group from Yahoo anymore! Why?

 

I was going to transfer a group here now but there seems to be a message saying I can't.

Is there a workaround?

No, our questionnaire is not an attachment, just an active ?Pending Subscription Notice. This is the first non-member responding to the group since we converted, so I am at a loss of how to accept them the correct way.

You could make it a Guidelines member notice in Admin, Member Notices.

From the system help about the Guidelines notice:

A special case: Group Guidelines

The Group Guidelines notice is a unique type that provides a convenient and versatile way to communicate and maintain the group¡¯s posting and conduct guidelines, if any. It has the following features and options:

- can be sent automatically on the first of each month as a message to the group, with an option to include members subscribed via Special Notices Only

- can be sent manually by a moderator to a group member at any time, in case the member needs a review of the guidelines

- appears under its own "Guidelines" tab at left on the group¡¯s pages, with an option to be visible either by group members only or by the public


Unlike the other notice types, a group can create at most one Group Guidelines notice. If created, a Guidelines tab will automatically appear on the group home page. The rest of the features are optional and are specified as follows when creating or editing the notice.

I do understand you not revealing the name of your group since I am a member of another group that also recently transferred from Yahoo.? It is a very private group discussing an even more detailed and obscure aspect of naval history than naval wargaming¡­

As an outside observer, I can't think of anything you have left out. Depending on how much of a stickler you want to be, you could make an "I read it and I will abide by the rules" check box part of the joining procedure, but that probably wouldn't be necessary if you have a trustworthy crew. Just my opinion; I never heard of your group's subject matter before?reading this dispatch five minutes ago, and I continue to be amazed and impressed that there is an interest group for just about everything!

PS - I haven't identified the name of our group since we are a private-on-line group of friends with a common work and interest background dating back years, as well as other interests in common. We use the discussion group format to stay in touch easily and are grateful that was here to jump to when Yahoo "socked it to us" one last time! This GMF is also very helpful, so big props for that, too, and to all who think of issues I haven't but find useful knowing about.

Only if it contains a virus I believe.? See ? The phishing and malware scans were disabled last I heard, due to excessive false positives.? You can somewhat control what happens using the Viruses option in the Message Policies section of the Settings page.

Well, I need to correct myself on this last one.

Attachments are indeed downloaded in a group export, but they are embedded in the mbox file, and are not made available as individual files. Only after I visited a couple of my own group exports did that light in my brain flicker back on.

So it appears the only way to get attachments is to visit each message containing one and download them individually. Sorry for the misinformation.

I have a data download from Yahoo in October. I thought it included only my messages, but on further inspection it does look like the entire group¡¯s messages are saved (in mboxrd).


This is very encouraging; hopefully I will be able to upload the entire message archive to Groups.io at some point.?

No.

It will be bounced with a 500-level error, as follows:

groupname @ groups.io (reading confirmation): 500 The group does not permit attachments.

If the subscriber has email delivery turned on, the message will be posted back to him without the attachment. There is no separate notification.

I have read the Hashtag FAQ:

But I have a question:

In creating hashtags for our group, we keep getting "That Hashtag is Invalid"

The hashtags we are creating are the name of a person, they are all one word, all standard ASCII characters, have no special characters, no numbers, no accents etc, and are not profane or curse words.

Why do we keep getting this error?

A limit to the number of hashtags a group can have?

Certain character not allowed together for example part of last name Sz ?

In that case, about all you could do would be forward the message to the group from your email program, unless the person wants to also make a post to the group.

?I figured out why I was having a hard time finding groups on io.
The more stuff you add to the description of your group on the Home Page, the more it shows up in the search engine.
?I have a music group. I listed a bunch of bands on the Home Page. Anytime I type in one of those band in the search engine,? my group shows up.
?Hopefully this will get people to find the group now.
