Re: Photo permissions
I responded privately to Dale suggesting that when he creates the Yahoo photos album that he set it for all members to be able to Add photos to that album.? I was assuming that since everyone can add - they should also be able to delete.? Are you saying that is incorrect?? They can't delete out of the Yahoo photos album?
I told him that if he allowed the members to go to that Yahoo photos album, copy it to their computer, then create their own private album, and upload their photos, then THEY could delete their photos from the Yahoo album instead of involving him.
So is that incorrect?
Sincerely,
Rli@...

We have 286 albums.? I can get all the photos into one album and upload them that way to one "Photos from Yahoo" album,Before you start uploading I suggest that you check how much space they are going to occupy. 286 albums is quite a lot, but of course it gives no clue about how many photos might be in each album? IMHO there is no point in starting to upload them to find that halfway through the process you reach your 1 GB limit and can upload no more. It is certainly vital that prior to uploading you set the Max Size in Photos Section (Admin > Settings [scroll] Photos) to something that will prevent any large photos (in MB that is) taking up too much space. I am relucant to suggest a setting; trial and error might be better. That said 1024 x 1024 would not be a bad starting point. Some radical weeding of the photos retrieved from Yahoo so that you only upload the really relevant stuff is likely to prove worthwhile and could prevent a lot of frustration later. Chris |

One of our more active members sent me this; it is beyond my scope of technical knowledge to help. Can you please send me a solution that I can forward to him? It's going to be difficult because I suspect he's paraphrasing what he's seeing and not reporting word-for-word what is shown to him. Problem 1: Can¡¯t connect securely to this pageAll I can say that web browsers (and antivirus programs) have gotten a lot more paranoid, and some of them will prevent users from visiting perfectly safe pages for any number of reasons that power users would consider frivolous. When I visit groups.io's pages, all of my browsers report the URL to be "secure". The Microsoft Edge that is installed on my computer says that groups.io's pages is secure (see attached screenshot). Problem 2: I copied the link to Firefox and get an error message I¡¯m not logged in.If you use that link in a browser, you should get one of two types of pages: either you get a page telling you that you're logged in, or you get a page telling you that the link had expired (it expires after 24 hours). All I can recommend is that the user try again: 1. Go here: /sendloginlink 2. Type in his e-mail address and press the green button. 3. Wait for the new link to arrive by mail. 4. Copy/paste the new "loginlink" link in Firefox. If this doesn't work, please tell us what exactly the page says (or send a screenshot). Samuel |

Bruce,
Thanks for the feedback/info. The "join date" seniority issue is certainly not a high priority. If the join date could be corrected in three to six or eight months that would be fine. Members are in for the long haul. Members do like their bragging rights. Thanks again. Regards, Scott. |
Re: Current Delay ?
November 15, 2019 Hi All,
?
As of this morning, we've completely worked through the backlog of Yahoo Group transfer requests. It took 29 days, but we did it. :-)
?
I've removed the option to pay for a priority transfer.
?
I'm still only responding to support emails from premium group owners right now. There's just too much otherwise. Also, the beta group is still moderated.
?
A reminder: please get your transfer requests in by the end of the month.
?
Thanks,
Mark

Current Delay ?
Does anyone know roughly what the current delay time is between sending an invitation to [email protected] and Transfer joining a Yahoo Group?

Problem is that no one but me or another moderator or owner can move the files. Is there a way to upload them so that anyone can move them?Dale -- I really don't think so. If you upload them, you own them, and a mere Subscriber will be unable to move "your" photos. It is possible to reassign ownership of photos so they can be moved by someone else, but it must be done one by one, is a very cumbersome process (try it and see), and will not save you or anybody else any work. As Frances suggested, you may be better off hosting the photos in cloud storage and having your subscribers transfer them to the group from there. That's the only convenient way I can think of to delegate the job and still get all the ownerships to come out right. Here's hoping someone else has worked this through and has a better idea. Good luck, Bruce |
If you have a long series of folders that are NOT in alphabetic order, it will be confusing and difficult for users to find the one they want from a list. Even prefixing numbers helps you, but not the user. 1. Nebraska 2. Massachusetts 3. Arizona 4. North Carolina 5. New York . . . 49. Hawaii 50. Wyoming Users would not appreciate finding the folder in such a list. There is one case where numbers make sense: an archive of photos or attachments by year, with folders labelled 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. I don't see confusion with this, whether the list default is to sort ascending or descending. Larry |

I'll have to double-check whether it ever happens with any other emails, but it seemed to be pretty specific to Groups.ioI confirm that the digest or summary mails are more highly formatted messages, and indeed they do have a minimum width. SOLUTION: One solution is that she opens the mail in a new window, so that the folders on the left-hand side do not take up any space. There is a special button in Gmail for this, at the top right of the message (see screenshot attached). Also: I may have found the problem. The HTML is written very nicely for adjusting the width to the screen, and then someone put an image in the message footer in such a way that it doesn't allow going smaller: /img/org.1/digest_bg_footer.jpg Samuel |

I can create a wiki start page in GMF for this if you wish.
If you haven't done a wiki, it is just like word processing - or like writing a post online here at Groups.io Any member of GMF can edit it. Anyone can read it. Frances -- FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |

I had my Yahoo group transferred to Groups.io a few days ago (800+ members), under the name CHARTER BOAT OWNERS. Apparently only the moderator (me) is allowed to post and none of the members can post - they cannot see the "New Topic" button.
I have been looking at all my settings and I cannot find where to fix this. Can someone help ASAP please? Thank you. Michael |
