Charles -- Neither. Your year starts on the date that you paid for the Premium Yearly upgrade.

It was at that point that your group first gained access to functions available only to Premium groups.

I wanted to preserve my Yahoo Group's existence so I decided to transfer over to Groups.io. ?I opened and upgraded a new Groups.io Group according to the transfer instructions and paid the $220 fee. ?Now I am in the waiting queue for a month or so, TBD as to when my group gets transferred so I can use the transferred data.

My question is: ?When does my paid year begin, when I started the transfer process, or when I actually got the transfer?

Lyndon -- It's important to understand that the groups.io transfer agent cannot and will not "break into" Yahoo Groups and "steal" data off their servers. It is up to the group Owners to let the agent in.?If you're unable to invite new subscribers to your Yahoo Group, then I suspect you can't promote anyone to Moderator, either...both of which are necessary for the agent to gain full access to your group's data.

But if you have a lot of time on your hands, it's possible to migrate everything but the message archive yourself, using freely available tools. Please see the FAQ at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups, starting at #10. We had the same issue in our group - we wanted a small, "administrators" group for private conversation. As Duane said, you CAN make this a subgroup, but we elected to have a separate (free) group for this purpose because we felt it was too likely that, being a subgroup *in the same domain*, we might inadvertently send a private message to the whole group! This way we are totally separate and pretty confident we won't mix them up. Our main group is a Premium one, but since there are only 7 people in the Admin group, and we don't need a large amount of file space, that one was set up as a Free group so it did not add to the cost.

Just sharing what our group did for this (and why). I realize we all have different needs and so this might not be best for you.

I can only delete my own messages. I am using a desktop and have never turned on tablet mode, but I could check it. FWIW, the crowns are there for my other groups.

The only other account I have ever had is the one that predated NEO. They forced me to create the one I have now when NEO was released.

You may get your "power" back.? Yahoo has been doing many strange things recently.? One person has a suggestion that may possibly work, /g/GroupManagersForum/message/21985? If that doesn't work, you can see if another moderator on the YG can do it or upgrade your permissions so you can send invitations (and promote transfer to a moderator.)? The inviter/promoter doesn't need to be the same person doing the transfer.

Thanks for responding and trying to help. As a Moderator of my group, I have access to all the management function EXCEPT the critical one required by Groups.io for automated migration: The ability to Invite members (Groups.io requires an invitation be sent from the old Yahoo group to a specific Groups.io address). Only an Owner has that ability.

The cited link advises:

Here's a summary of the basic issue: With Yahoo ID/Email Nawdry_bga@... I am recognized as a Moderator of the LRPPro Yahoo group, but not as Owner. The Owner is listed on the LRPPro site as Nawdry@.... I own that Yahoo ID/Email address. But when I access the site with that ID, I am not even recognized as a member, much less as Owner.

When I try to subscribe to the list, I get a message:

Your email address is not linked to a Yahoo ID. To join this group, you need to link your email address to a Yahoo account.

But it IS linked to a Yahoo account. I receive Email at that account, but somehow it is not recognized by Yahoo groups. I have gone through loop after loop after loop.

Just this morning I paid a $4.95 fee (plus tax) to get access to Yahoo's online tech support. I spent over an hour trying to get help, but they have no ability whatsoever to assist with Yahoo Groups, despite their promotional material claims. They are processing a return of my fee. More importantly, they have absolutely no phone number or other contact access to the central Yahoo administration and any tech support other than what they themselves provide. In other words, it seems Yahoo has closed any and all support for Yahoo Groups and any way to resolve this at the Yahoo Groups point. All of this is truly like a story by Kafka.

We are using a free download called PG offline 4 to store our messages because Yahoo don't download it all.

Goodness. I too was looking for the "language" field in the setup. I can't believe that this platform is solely available in English.?

I have been using multiple browsers for years to resolve issues like yours. Most commonly I use it on my website pages. I can be logged in on one browser in editing mode and on another to verify changes and capture URLs for links in emails, etc.?

I use multiple browsers to access IO groups because I have three IO accounts. I like to see IO group content in moderator, owner and member views.?

I am on my iPad more than my Mac nowadays. There are apps for browsers such as Chrome, Duck Duck Go, Opera Mini and Firefox for tablets and phones. The same thing applies to using different tablet browser apps.?

Sorry about this, as I think I have seen the answer somewhere before on the forum but cannot find it now.

The voluntary organisation I am involved has Yahoo Groups, covering its different activities.? We are now going to migrate the main umbrella group over as our main Groups.io group and move what used to be separate Yahoo Groups into new sub-groups - logically a better structure.

The question is, once my main group has transferred can I submit the transfer requests for the sub-groups more or less at the same time?? The answer I saw before indicated that there was no problem in doing this, but can anyone out there confirm this?

Cannot say what would occur for others but paying for expedited transfer really reduced the time to get the transferring done.

Two and half hours after paying for expedited transferring checked the status and shows TRANSFERRING NOW. Not sure when it actually began but this was a group that had about 850 groups ahead of my group. Groups.io had already downloaded the information was just waiting to transfer.

Others had estimated 20 to 30 groups were being transferred a day by Groups.io so using those numbers I would have waited another 29 to 43 days unless things speeded up.

This is a large group for me (almost 1,300 members and about 350,000 prior emails and several files uploaded) and I needed to get it up and running.

For me the $200 is worth the faster service.
