That anomaly is because of the limiter on number of invitations sent at one time. You can input a lot more and you must wait. Re: "Average Pace" of transfers
John B
I'm seeing between 16 and 32 groups per day over the past few days.? Thursday and Friday were at the high end.? Today is slower.? I'm around #200 in the queue.
Might depend on group size (# messages, photos, etc.), whether a human is needed to do stuff, how many are paying $200 for priority, etc. |
Re: Does Groups.io keep a record of invitations?

Yes Groups.io allows you to track whom you have invited.?
In Admin, Invites. Two tabs - an invitation to be sent with a customizable section and the second tab is Sent Invitations. Email addresses, date sent, status. Sortable list. You can resend from here as well using the Actions toggle. Cancel / Remove Invite is a bit cryptic (to my mind). You can remove the Invite but it doesn't remove their membership. It is just to tidy up the list. I've only sent one invitation (as a test) which was accepted and it still shows up under Invite -> Sent Invitations (with a status of accepted).

Does Groups.io keep a record of invitations?
#invitation
Just wondering, 'cause I actually haven't sent any yet.? (My group is at Stage 3 of 4 in the transfer; a few dozen members have signed up at GIO; the rest are awaiting automatic transfer; that's okay, I can be patient.)
When you send an invitation to join a Yahoo group it just sorta disappears into the ether.? You'll see the feeble confirmation that "You can sent 99 more invitations today" (or whatever), but you have no record of to whom invitations were sent and when. Does GIO keep better track? That's a feature I'd really value. |
current turnaround for invitation approval?
#invitation
I sent 600+ invitations this morning and as it has been a little longer than "a few hours" (as I've seen quoted in other messages here), I was wondering if anyone else who recently required invite approval could tell me how long it took.
That's it.? Thank you! JJ Krawczyk |

You can set up? a (one way) Integration.
Open the Admin menu and tap or click Integrations then? Email Integrations follow the instructions to set up and acquire a (very long) unique email address. You can have it Moderated or not as you see fit. I think you can have several of them. -- Bob Bellizzi |
Re: "Average Pace" of transfers
20 to 30 a day seems a rough rule of thumb.? It's hard to gauge without knowing how many group owners are paying $200 to leapfrog the queue.? I didn't, and my little group's saga is below.
My understanding is that GIO "harvested" all material from our Yahoo site at Step 2, so any new material posted there won't be transferred.? That's okay.? Whenever I post I make sure to send it to both Groupname@...?and [email protected].? (Those are fake names, don't use 'em.)? And if another member posts and omits one or the other address, I send a perfunctory reply and make sure to send it to both.? It's a pain but tolerable.? My annoyance is confined to a perfidious Yahoo, not to the dedicated GIO team! Sat 10/19/2019 Alerted members of my group about Yahoo¡¯s plans and discussed options (Google groups. Groups.io, Facebook, plain email, dissolution).? People liked my description of Groups.io especially the ability to preserve ten years¡¯ worth of content. Sun 10/20/2019 Created group at Groups.io.? Signed up for Premium and paid $110 (which doubled two days later).? Sent invitation for [email protected] to join our Yahoo group.? Heard nothing. ?
Fri 10/25/2019 Invitation was finally accepted.? (Whether it was Sunday¡¯s or Thursday¡¯s, I don¡¯t know.)? I swiftly upgraded [email protected] to moderator and gave the go-ahead for transfer.
Sat 10/26/2019
Sun 10/27/2019 Finally progressed to step 3 of 4.? Place in queue #644.
Mon 10/28/2019 #633.
Tue 10/29/2019 #618.
Wed 10/30/2019 #584.
Thur 10/31/2019 #553.? "The pace does seem to be picking up but we¡¯re still looking at 2-4 more weeks if this continues."
Fri 11/1/2019 #543
Sat 11/2/2019 #521
(Caveat:? I didn't necessarily sample these at the same time of day, so interpret 'em accordingly.) ? |

If so, you won't e able to use this until you can add that email address as a member.? If you have a paid group, you can do a Direct Add.? Re: Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?
This is possibly an issue of semantics; what the developers behind mean by announcements and what others mean are not necessarily the same thing. When you say 'other groups', are you referring to groups on or somewhere else? Better, perhaps, to look at what you yourself interpret as or would wish from? an announcement, then look at the tools provided to see how best to meet the requirement. Ignore the labels applied to the tools To the best of my knowledge only has the two special cases, that is setting a group to 'Announcements', which is a shorthand for 'owners/moderators only', and 'Special Notice' which is a per-topic thing.? There's nothing special about the messages or topics in an announcement group, beyond the exalted status and wisdom of the moderators (?). Delivery, reading etc. obeys all of the preferences set by the subscriber; so if, for instance, they chose to receive digests rather than individual messages there will be a built-in delay before they see the message. This is fine for general stuff and having the specific group allows members to apply their own filtering in mail clients for instance, or for non-email users to have a specific place to go to check up. You can also fine-tune the various delivery and reply options of course. Sometimes you might need to ensure that a message is received urgently, and this is where checking the 'Send as a special notice' box when adding a new topic comes in. This overrides pretty much all of the delivery options apart from 'No Email'. There's a topic in the forum on special notices, /g/GroupManagersForum/message/3933 which is worth a quick read. Something else you can consider for modifying the behaviour of topics are hashtags. For instance, by creating a hashtag with attributes 'Moderators only' and 'Locked immediately' you have a way for moderators to post what is in effect an announcement.? Hope that helps at least a little! Derek |

Hi Chris ¨C thanks for your reply ¨C there are 2 members listedAha; then they haven't actually joined, and they will need to go through the process. Some may already be a member of a group hosted by Groups.io, in which case they will already have Accounts. Those who are not already members of a Groups.io group will automatically acquire Accounts as part of the process. As you are a UK group there is a warning I have to give you; many of your members are likely to have btinternet.com email addresses. There is a problem with these at the moment (BT have stated that it is under investigation) inasmuch as any email sent from an email client with a btinternet address to an address that has +something in it (as many Groups.io addresses do) will be misrouted. Anyone trying to apply for membership by email from a btinternet address is likely to run into problems immediately. I suggest that you communicate with your members again and ask them to (a) go to your group's Home Page and (b) Apply for Membership in this Group using the big blue tab at the bottom. Please advise them that anyone who already has a group membership / account with Groups.io will find the process quicker and easier if they log in to their account first. Chris |

Strange behavior
Never had it work this way before:
Today, I (owner of a group) received the Subscription Approval Needed email. I clicked on the link to 'View Pending Member' and Chrome opened up to the prospective member's listing. I clicked on 'Approve' and was taken to the membership list page. So far, so good. BUT... that list only showed 5 members: The member I just approved, the first member that signed up with the group before the transfer which was in February, 2018, myself and two moderators. So I followed the following sequence: 'Your Groups>(my group)>Admin>Members and the list shows the 978 members I expected to see, but not the new member I just approved.? Is this just a symptom of the overwhelmed servers or does this seem like a bug I should watch for a few days to see if it clears up and if not, report to support? And one other thing that's not important on our group, but details of how things work always intrigue me, the actual request email came late last night (11/1) and even though I approved it today (11/2), the joined date on that new member that only showed up on the first abbreviated member list was 11/1. Is it always the case that the joined date is the date they applied and not the date they are approved? Dave |
