Re: Email addresses

Thanks for the suggestions which are appreciated.

From Frances:
My email (Apple Mail) does that for me - made rules in iCloud.
What email client are you using?
I am using Apple Mail on this computer, a Mac mini, and I use Thunderbird on my PC.

You could rejoin some groups with different email address, if you wish. Then cancel the subscriptions that are duplicates.
That is the only option that I can see so far but it is one that I wanted to avoid.

Most of the groups that I am in, owning some and a member of others, are for Amateur Radio so I use my callsign in my domain name for my email address. The other groups are for other purposes and I prefer to use another domain name for those which does not use my callsign.

I know how to merge the groups into one account or to change to another email address for all of them but I don¡¯t know how to split some groups away to another account.

From Jonathan Sivier:

Why not just use a filter on your email program to direct the messages from different groups into different folders. ¡
Yes, I have done that in both Mac Mail and Thunderbird. It solves half of the problem but not the one where I want to use different email address domains for different purposes.

As I said, I would like to be able to split some groups from one account and move them to another account without moving all of them.

The problem is probably that I was used to being able to do that easily in the Yahoo Groups so I was hoping to be able to do the same here.

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions.

Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

For detailed instructions on how to conduct a Yahoo Groups transfer please refer to this message:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19673

Please read carefully and do each item in order.?

Rather than repost or edit it every time I want it to send, I'm linking to it now. Time will tell if that works any better.

HOW TO CHECK TRANSFER STATUS

Here's how to check your transfer status.

  1. Go to the Yahoo transfer page at?/yahootransfer
  2. Select the transfer you want to check status on from "View Existing Transfer Status" list at lower right (click on?its name)*
  3. The box at the top of the resulting page will tell you the status of that transfer.
  4. Repeat for any other transfers you may have in progress.
For transfers that are actually approved and in progress, see also:??to see where you are in the queue.

My fault... but what do I do now?

We've been in the queue since last Sunday, started @ #483, now down to #367 :-(? But I don't know if that's indicative of any "average" . . . .

Thanks, Ken. 10,000 images will be more than enough

Re: Resizing photos?

Thank you, Bruce. If we start using too much space I'll transfer photos to Google photos.?

I'll just let everyone know that they can't send attachments.

Re: Retrieve existing transfer page? #transfer

No, I'm using the same email address.

It's my fault, really. I got the notification from Yahoo that the transfer agent had joined the group and so I went back to the transfer page, expecting the status message to have changed. When it didn't and didn't change, I refreshed the page, but instead of taking me back to the same transfer page it took me to the "request a transfer" start page.

Re: Needing a correction in message delivery

Kathleen,

When the emails are being delivered, they are showing as
[email protected]
By "the emails" do you mean Welcome notices, or other Member Notices?

If you changed your group's email address due to that typo you'll need to go into the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page and update any existing notices - that doesn't happen automatically.

If you mean message posts by members, that's effectively impossible once the change has been put into place. Maybe you're looking at messages that were sent before the change?

Re: Transferring members to new group

Susan,

My question is do they all get moved or sent invitations to join once
IO groups transfers me over.
They all get copied into your Groups.io group (except those in the Bouncing list at your Y!Group, and those whose address already appears in your Groups.io group). It isn't an invitation that requires any kind of response, they're in immediately.

Details here:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Note particularly the controls for what notifications are sent to the copied addresses.

Re: Retrieve existing transfer page? #transfer

Erika,

My transfer page that was to update with the notification that the
invite had been accepted suddenly disappeared.
This most likely means that you are now logged in using a different email address than the one you used when setting up the transfer.

The transfer control and status mechanism is tied to the account (email address) of the person who initiated it.

Retrieve existing transfer page? #transfer

I initiated a transfer and invited the transfer agent?to my Yahoogroup. My transfer page that was to update with the notification that the invite had been accepted suddenly disappeared.

Where can I find it again? I had a message from Yahoogroups that the transfer agent has joined the group and I have set them to moderator, but I can't now get back to the groups.io page to confirm the transfer and to follow its process.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log, and the 18th's:

(There was no change log last week)

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: For premium/enterprise groups on annual billing, we now send out
a courtesy reminder two weeks before billing them.
This was cited in an answer to a question, it seems like forever ago.
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/35555435#19588

NEW: Testing prioritizing support emails from group owners of premium
groups.
That's something that was once promised on the Pricing page, but Mark removed it because it wasn't implemented, and he couldn't figure out how to express what it would mean.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

INTERNAL: Various software changes and additional machines to deal
with the extreme massive influx of new groups.
API: Added signature to member_info object.
API: New endpoints: newpoll, updatepoll, getpoll, vote.
API: New endpoint: registeruser.
API: New endpoints: newwikipage, getwikipages, getwikipageset.

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Well, this is strange. I still can't gain access to my own group "Management" functions, but I was able to request and receive a download of all my groups, even the ones that I'm just a member of. There is a folder for each group, with sub-folders for files and messages, but not for photos and attachments. Only the downloads for groups with owner privileges included photos. That's not a huge deal since I can manually download the photos without owner privileges, and there aren't that many of them.

At least now I can restore all the members and invite them to join the new groups.io group, and I guess I can upload the files and photos.

Better than nothing, but I wasted the fee for the yearly upgrade since I couldn't use it. Had I known at the time, I would have created a master group, and put everything else in subgroups.

Re: Applied member approved by system ?

Bill Carns

Shal,

We have a closed group and, for the first time, I had a new member apply for membership, and while in the process of vetting him, I found that the system had approved him. As it turns out, I went in to approve him and found this, so no harm - no foul I guess, but it worries me. There are two of us in that management loop, but I checked with the other guy and he had not even been in the system.

Have you ever seen this happen before. I am moderator of Collins HF Comm Users Group in Groups I-O.

Thanks.

Bill

Re: how to directly add a member to the group

Mendy,

Did you invite her?
Or was she transferred from YahooGroups?
Or did she send a "subscribe" email to your group?

What group plan do you have? Basic or Premium?
If you have Premium, you can direct add. Instructions have been given previously.
If you have basic, you can invite her.
Here are instructions -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Inviting-new-members

1. You can upgrade your group to "Premium"
for a month (US$ 20 per month), then an
additional "Direct ADD" member option will
appear in the "Admin" menu.

Or...

2. She can ask to join the group.

3. You can send another invite to her.

I opted for the first option in my
group.

When we went to set up to transfer the boxfordlathe-usergroup@...?group over we received a notice

"That Yahoo Group is already a part of another transfer"

What do we do about this as we do not see any members as [email protected] yet.

Walter -- As the notice states, someone else has already initiated a transfer for that Yahoo group. Each Yahoo group can only one active transfer at a time.

This interfering transfer could have been done a long time ago, perhaps by another member of the group who later discovered he couldn't proceed....or maybe you yourself have accidentally set up duplicate transfers.

You need to figure out who did that and have them delete their incomplete transfer so yours can proceed.
