You'll find few groups here on that subject though do try Shal's
instructions on searching for a group. You may know of some keywords
that may bring back more search results than I got with the word debt
or the word spend.

I did find this one, but it's for business owners. I don't know if
you're a business owner or not but I'll list it below:

bdalist / BDA Email Group
This is a closed 12-step group of people who have a desire to not
incur unsecured debt and are business owners.
Created: 10/08/18

/g/bdalist

You can also start your own group but it will take some time to grow.
You may have ways of advertising your group to get people on board and
grow your membership.

While I generally direct people away from Yahoo Groups, you can find
many debt related groups. Just type debt in the find a group field.

What to watch for when looking for a group you may want to join is how
many members there are and when the last post was made. One of the
groups in the first dozen or so in the list I got had its last post on
January 4th of this year, but that figure in the search results is
misleading since when I clicked on the link to it, I see on the group
home page how many posts were made in any given month and there were 9
posts in July, June, May, and April, 11 in March, etc. Most haven't
had a post since 2018 or earlier, some for many years. Some have only
1 member, and many less than 10 members.

The one that is minimally active that has had recent posts is this
one:

In it's heyday it had as many as 14,000 posts in one month back in
2007. There are still over 1400 members. If you find that it's a dead
group and the posts are only spam, create a group here and make an
announcement in that group, and many others that you find have become
spam havens (usually it means it's an abandoned group) and announce
your new group in those groups. See what happens.

Dying groups won't suddenly become active again by moving here, but
you might attract some to your new group here from abandoned groups.
That is, if you can get your membership approved. It's possible that
if it's truly abandoned, you may not have a moderator or owner there
who is still active (or alive) who can approve your request to join.

You can also join some of these groups and mention the lack of
frequent posts and ask where you could find related groups, perhaps on
other platforms line online forums, Listserve or Majordomo groups
(email lists), etc.

You'll have to search for one, and expect to spend some time
searching. I would try the search terms "online" with either "Debt" or
"spend" and maybe either "list" or "group" but not all of these
together. I didn't find any that led to groups or an "active" listserv
email list. I found this but the link to sign up leads to nothing:

Hope this might be of SOME help to you.

Lock group button

While going through settings, I noticed a button that says "lock group." I've searched through help and can't find anything of what that means. In my mind, I'm assuming it means that the group is frozen and the members can no longer post or do anything until I fix a problem and unlock it. Is that what it means?

I apparently sent my original email to the wrong address, and the link for the answer I was given is no longer available....so I'm still looking for an answer.

Thanks!

If you change the URL of your IO Group, but only changing some letters from upper case to lower case, will that impact on the links in messages or the have the need for members to change their address book etc .....

Mick?

Not just the Home Page layout but the actual IO Groups name.

Yes you can.

What most people refer to as a group's name is the group-specific part of the Group Email Address:
<hbpmcnmknlfaffpb.png>

That name is also used in the group's web address, for example.
/g/GroupManagersForum

Note that changing the group's name (addresses) does have predictable consequences for the members of the group. Please read GMF's wiki page on Renaming a Group for some considerations, and post again if you have more questions or any comments about the wiki page.

Re: Website name change

Our travel group considered a name change so it could be more easily found in the list of groups. We decided on an easier solution - formed a second group for owner and moderators. The description invites members to join our main group and gives a link.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

Last week's change log (oops):

This week's change log:

The next #changelog will be sent on August 9th.
Mark's on vacation.

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: You can now view past member +Owner messages.
The Past Member list is a Premium feature.

Comments about these are welcome:

CHANGE: In the activity log, we sometimes truncate long entries. We
now have 'more' links to show the full entry.
NEW: Added new chat API endpoints: /newchat, /updatechat, /getchats,
/deletechat, /joinchat, /leavechat.
NEW: Added /getevent API endpoint.
BUGFIX: In some cases when someone RSVPs to an event but is
waitlisted, an incorrect activity log entry was generated.
NEW: Added /rsvp endpoint to set/update an event RSVP.
CHANGE: Previously, the /getsubgroups endpoint would return group
objects that represented group aliases. It now longer returns these.
CHANGE: In the /directadd endpoint, if a subgroupname or subgroupid is
specified that points to a group alias, the pointed to group will be
used instead.
NEW: Added /getgroupaliases API endpoint to fetch group aliases.
INTERNAL: Split out chat websocket endpoint from the web server into a
new chat server process.
BUGFIX: We were not logging when a moderator changed a user's display
name.
INTERNAL: A lot of work to support the API/app.
BUGFIX: Links in wiki pages were unintentionally opening in new
browser windows.
CHANGE: When attempting to view member only parts of a group after
you've been banned, instead of saying you were banned, we now say
'You are not a member of this group.'

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Calendar function

Dave,

My group has a calendar on it's page but I can't figure how to make it
allow me to make entries. I have moderator status.
If you have permission to access the group's Settings page, check the Permissions setting for the calendar, first in the Features section. If it says "moderators can edit" then you should be able create and edit entries.

Otherwise, as Bruce said, check that you're signed in using an account that has moderator status. You can tell by looking at the Home button at the top of the nav list on the left. It should have a light blue Mod badge. If it has no badge then you are signed in using an account which is a member.

Re: Pending Member

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thank You Bruce.

When I look at admin>members the 2nd email address she used is pending.? So, if I then go to the pending top left, members.? There is the other email address.? So, I suppose it does not matter one way or the other as far as her being approved.? It is just all so confusing to me.

Thanks again Bruce,
Doug

While that's a little frustrating, I think you're focusing on the wrong thing. User/display name can be changed at will. The email address is the only unique identifier, and is all that matters in this context.

If your logs say that you already approved her via email, it's too late for your partner to use this subscriber to get in some practice.

The second user name is pending, but the first I cannot find in the directory.? That is the one it says I approved.? So, is there a lag time between a new user gets approved and when they show in the directory?
Go to your group's Members List (Admin>Members), NOT the Directory. If anyone is in Pending status, they will show up on the first screen. To get to the people you've already approved, you may have to pull down the blue Pending menu at top left and select Members. If it already says Members, then no one is in Pending status.

By default, newest subscribers sort to the top of the resulting list. If they don't, click the Applied label at far right until it displays a downward-pointing caret. Now look in the first few entries for the email address that your partner approved. If it's there, nothing is awry. Any names you might see -- user or display -- do not matter.

I hope this helps. If not, I'm probably more confused than you are.

Regards,
Bruce

Have a look at the top for the Find or Create a Group link (red arrow):

That brings you to a directory of groups. From there you can use the search box to search for groups on your subject.

David -- The first thing to check is if "Calendar" even shows up among the options on the left-side menu bar. If not, the group has the calendar disabled in settings...one of the Owners will have to first go into Admin>Settings>Features and enable it.

Second thing to check is the Home button at top left. If there a blue "Mod" badge adjacent to the word Home? If not, you may still be a Moderator of the group, but not with the email address that you logged in with. Log back out of groups.io and log in with the email address that has Moderator permissions.

Assuming all is okay to this point, adding events involves clicking on the Calendar tab at left, scrolling to the bottom of the resulting page, and clicking the Add Event button.

I hope something in there helps. Please let us know if you need any further assistance or have any follow-up questions.
