Bouncing problem
#bouncedemails
Panagiotis Georgopoulos
Hello all,
I've created a new group and emailed my first post from the email I subscribed with.? I never received that email and if I read my email delivery history on the groups.io web portal I see a bouncing error "550 5.7.1 local domain specified from non-local IP". Do you have an idea of how to sort this out? Many thanks in advance, Panos?? |

I have 2 members on one of my groups who have addresses at "icloud.com" They are the only 2 addresses at this domain on any of my lists. Both of them began bouncing on November 1 with the error message: The page at the above link is aimed at bulk senders of the shady variety. iCloud is confusing Gio with senders of unsolicited bulk mail... aka spam. It's not Gio's problem; it's iCloud's problem. Two potential solutions... 1) Your subscribers should complain to iCloud - via phone if possible, but also via email. They should complain to postmaster@... and abuse@... and tell them that Gio is a subscription mailing list service like YahooGroups, email by subscription only, no spam. 2) Groups.io should tell them the same. Based on some experience manning an abuse desk part time, they'll probably pay more attention to Gio than to your two subscribers. Jim H |
Re: problems with icloud addresses
Jonathan, I have 2 members on one of my groups who have addresses at This has cropped up before: This seems to indicate there is some issue with that iCloud No, not directly. I think at most you could contact [email protected] to let them know, but my guess is that since this has been a recurring problem Mark is already aware of it. As with Janice's similar report, the problem can only be solved by their email provider. So your two members should try to figure out how to reach the right level of support at iCloud and get them to recognize Groups.io as a legit email list service. Either that or vote with their feet (switch to? an email provider that will actually deliver the email they signed up for). Re: What does this mean
It's his provider saying they think they got too many messages from Groups.io.? He should contact his provider and tell them that this is a group site that will send emails, sometimes many in a short time.? I doubt it will do any good, but they may allow more traffic eventually.

What does this mean
I checked the history of a brand new member and this is what appeared for the test message I posted to him:
MessageNew Statler Siblings Test message for new member DavidAttempted2:54pmResponse550 5.1.0 <66.175.222.12> This IP has sent too many messages this hour. IB504 <http://x.co/rlbounce>I don't understand the too many messages this hour part--is that related to his provider or something on Groups.io's end?ThanksJanice?B |
Re: I get bouncing, what can I do? (was: Changing a member's email address)
Sue,
When and how do you see "bouncing" related to your email address? So far it does not look like your email service has bounced (rejected) any messages from GMF, but are you seeing bounces listed in your Account, or in your Subscription to another group? Or, do you get failure notices (bounces) when you attempt to post to a group by email? Does anyone else have their groups.io group set to "Reply to Sender" and it works as intended? Yes. It works perfectly here. I use an email client on my home computer... not Gmail. Jim H |
Re: Query Databases form the web
#database
Hi Alex, Dear Group.io; Welcome to GMF, a user-to-user forum (no Groups.io personnel here). I have question about the outside accessibility of the databases inside each group. Maybe. There is an API for Groups.io, but I don't know if or how it works with members-only features (features like the Database, which require one to be logged in to access). Query Databases form the web
#database
Dear Group.io;
I have question about the outside accessibility of the databases inside each group. Is it possible to query the existing tables via XML or any other method using a script? All the best and keep up the great work! Alex |

There is also a "batch mode" in testing. If you append "-test" to the addressOur group decided to get rid of many of our oldest posts (from 15-20 years ago) as they were no longer relevant and just slowed down Searches, e.g. We used the Beta "batch mode" method Shal described above and it worked like a charm! Setting my account to see 100 entries at a time, I went through over 100,000 messages quite quickly. WAY better than the one at a time method. If you are *sure* you want to delete them, this method was great for us. (It is a paid group - not sure whether the test site is available to free groups, too....) Barb |
Re: Changing a member's email address
If you have a paid group, you can edit their email address for them.
If they use a screen reader, they should have minimal difficulty since Mark tries to keep the site compatible.? They can change the email address in their account settings instead of starting over. Changing a member's email address
Hello, We have several visually-impaired members and two have recently changed their email addresses. For the first one I removed them and invited then again via the changed email address. Is it possible for me (Owner/Administrator) to make the change for them without involving them at all? I understand that using the site is not as straightforward for them as for all the sighted members. Thank you, Barbara Howard |
Re: [email protected] not working for me
I am now an owner and the drop down is working. So that is a start. Now just waiting for the transfer @ groups io to be sorted. So fingers crossed it will work.
Thanks for your help Shai. Regards Keith |
Re: Group messages being blocked to @cox.net addresses
Thanks Duane,?
This user says that she is getting topic/message emails (no way to tell how many), but when she tries to set a password by going to the login page and clicking on forget password she never gets that email. She was transferred from yahoo with the rest of the group. She needs to be able to log in to vote in polls and access files, and I¡¯m not sure what to suggest next. I will tell her to complain loudly, but that feels like a very small voice in the wilderness. Thanks Beth |
