Re: CC filed being filled in automatically
Ilene,
Upon further checking it is only happening with AOL and Yahoo emailInteresting. So far the scenario is a group that has Reply To set to Subscriber, and a new message (not reply) posted by email from a Yahoo Mail or AOL address. Is that right? Can you find out anything else, such as whether the affected members create the new post by forwarding or re-sending a prior post, or filling in the group address from their address book, or from an auto-complete, or any other details about how they create the new posts? It will take me a while before I can test this. I'll let you know what I find out, if anything. Re: posting?
Both are easy to do here.
Once you've logged in and gone to one of your groups (or subgroups), there will be a New Topic tab on the left menu.? You can use that to start a new thread.? If you need to reply to a previous post, there's a Reply button just below each post.? If you want to quote part of a post, just highlight it before hitting Reply.? If you want to quote the entire post, there's a button (speech bubble) at the upper left of the Reply box to do just that. While online, you can go to Admin > Members.? Find the member that you want to set a Display Name for.? Click anyplace on their row, except for the check box.? On the page that opens, you can enter the Display Name, then scroll down to use the Save button. Some of this, and a lot more, is covered in the GMF Wiki, /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home as well as previous posts.? The search function works reasonably well, but you sometimes need to use 'unusual' search terms related to what you're looking for. Re: IO never accepts invitation to be a member of my Yahoo group. Why?? What do I do?
Among the reasons we fled Yahoo was the fact that Bruce Bowman mentioned, Yahoo's invitation system was notoriously unreliable and untrackable.
We also got fed up with those periods of no messages at all coming through and the blatant attempts to prevent owners for accessing the complete membership matrix as a .csv file.? Oh yes, neo was one of the big factors also. Yahoo certainly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, didn't they. Our memberships over almost 20 years trended to 3000-3500 and it was embarrassing to have someone tell us repeatedly they never received the invitation. Not only that but Yahoo disabled direct membership capability. During our first several months we stayed free and never had a dropped invitation (iwthout being able to find the cause) We decided to go premium to facilitate our input process and, at $10 bucks per month it's a bargain. But I think that if you want an answer to whether paid groups get transfer priority you need to pose it as a question to [email protected],?the place for bugs, etc. This forum is not monitored by groups.io owner. -- Bob Bellizzi Founder, Fuchs Friends?? |

Re: IO never accepts invitation to be a member of my Yahoo group. Why?? What do I do?
One thing I've never seen mentioned in all the "It's taking forever to accept the Yahoo invite" messages is whether the requester is using the service for free or is enrolled as a premium or higher member.

If groups.io is overloaded with transfer requests, it seems reasonable that they would give priority to paying customers. I transferred a 1,300 member Yahoo group about a month ago.? We enrolled in Premium, and initiated the transfer late on a Tuesday night. When the invite hadn't been accepted by Friday, I wrote to support, politely asking what was going on. Suddenly the group transferred that weekend. Since it would be unfair to a premium customer to be paying for a group that wasn't operational (because it hadn't transferred for weeks), I could understand why groups.io might put requests from those not paying at the bottom of the pile. Note that I have no hard evidence, only my experience and speculation. But those on GMF who regularly field these complaints might want to query about this and see if there's a pattern. Or those close to Mark F. might ask him privately. Personally, I have no problem paying for this service given how vastly superior it is to Yahoo.? Those not paying because they don't need the Premium features might reconsider providing financial support just to make sure groups.io remains financially viable. Mark E. At the bottom right of that page, do you see your transfer in the In Process drop down box?? If not, you haven't started the transfer in Step 1.? If you do, just wait. |

I don't see this happening in GMF, Beta, or any of my other groups so I
need more detail on how these messages are being posted (email or
Groups.io) and where you are seeing these CC fields (email or
Groups.io). And anything else that might be unusual about your groups or
their members.
?
One thing I noticed about your examples is that they all seem to be "new
topics" not replies (no "re:" in the subject). Another commonality is
that the examples were all from services with munged addresses (aol &
Yahoo) - not that I see how that might matter.
?
Any other patterns? What about your own messages to those groups?

No, remember that you are posting publicly here, those members may not
care for the exposure.
?
That said, an in-depth example (full header) might be illuminating. Send
it off-list for privacy.

Maybe groups.io sends these kinds of messages as plain text by default. It seems unlikely that anyone has an email client that can't handle html these days, but for things like this it's clearly more important to get the message across than to have it look pretty. Hopefully someone else will come forward and give you better advice than I did. Good luck! Bruce? -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Received from Joe Marshall at 9/21/2018 04:48 PM UTC:
Jim, you are right. I did a quick check before my original post did not see multiple "received" entries. Must have been more "quick" than "check". I cannot repeat it. -Joe The reason we both missed it is that some (like me) have Gio messages forwarded to our home account and respond from same. That makes for a lot of "Received:" headers in messages I send. Others (like you) read and respond on the Gio web based site. That makes for only very few "Received:" headers in messages you send. I was so surprised to see so few headers and leapt to the unhappy conclusion that Gio was scrubbing them... until I realized what was really happening. Jim H |

Message Rejection Notice Formatting
#moderation
Josh Miele
Hello! I'm having trouble creating a well-formatted message-rejection notice. The message I create with markdown in my notice looks great when previewed -- links appear properly, etc. But when the notice arrives to the rejectee via e-mail, not only does it have unwanted groups.io boilerplate above and below my message, but my markdown isn't processed at all, leading to an extremely bad experience for my rejected posters. This happens regardless of whether I reject via e-mail or the web interface. I'd like to both get rid of the boilerplate and have my rejection notice formatted as it appeared in my preview. I'd be grateful for suggestions. --JAM |

Re: How long before new group is "active"?
All new groups must be approved before they become active.? It can take up to 24 hours, but usually it's less than 12.? You'll get an email at the address you used to create the group when it's approved.
