Re: #UserName

So if it's non-functional and not needed site wide, can it not be removed site-wide, or at least not generate reminders that the profile is not complete without it?

Re: #UserName

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks for the prompt reply, Duane. I had guessed that this field was
vestigial.
But although you pointed me to the right place (where I had created the User
Name), I had been back there myself, to no avail.
But I now realize there is a profile for every group I'm in, as well as an
Account profile. I incorrectly assumed I should take it out in the same place I
put it in. It came out easily in my Account Profile.
Thanks!
Alex

Re: Help with Weird HTML Language from my iPhone/iPad Created URL in my Sig Line
Patty, I just tested it - same URL - on my test site and my iPhone and MacBook. No problem.
Perhaps you are entering it incorrectly on Groups.io Go to Groups.io. Go to Subscriptions (left side) Scroll down to - Use Signature For Web Posting - Use Signature For Email Posting Tick the ones you want. Below that there is a text box.? You will need to use the URL tool for the Cult of Mac URL. I just copied it from the website. Scroll down and Save! Hope this is the problem. Frances |
Re: Help with Weird HTML Language from my iPhone/iPad Created URL in my Sig Line
Nope.? This has never happened before, Duane.? And, it ONLY happens with groups.io.? I send plenty of emails from my iPhone/iPad to other people/forums and this does not happen.

Help with Weird HTML Language from my iPhone/iPad Created URL in my Sig Line
Ugh.? This just started happening.? Apparently, groups.io is trying to decipher the HTML with my created signature line from my iPhone/iPad.? In order to create a URL in your sig line on an iPhone or iPad, you have to use some other named URL program to create one.? So, my signature line is this:
Patty Sliney On my iPhone and my iPad.? But, groups.io is adding all the below HTML language all of a sudden (you can see I used Cult of Mac to create the link below my name): <b>Your Name</b><hr /> <b>Your Name</b><hr /> <b>Your Name</b><hr /> <b>Your Name</b><hr /> So, should I post this on the Best Group instead?? Going to have to remove my created URL from my iPhone/iPad I guess, as I often will reply to list messages in my email program, from my iPhone/iPad. ? -- Patty S. |
Re: How can I add a Constant Contact list to groups.io?
What's the exact error you're getting?? That might help us figure it out.? I suspect you can't do it though.

Reply to an email integration mail
#bug
#reply-to-group
thierry laporte
Hello,
I manage a group using groups.io. This group is an importation from yahoo groups where i used to manage sevral groups. In this group, I've created a email integration address. All of this is OK. Now, I send an email using this "integration address" to my list (from an email address that is not a subscriber of my list). The mail is correctly received by all the subscribers. That's OK If I make a "reply all" to that mail I've receive, It fills the recipients of that reply. And, It adds an mail address as recipient that ends with : "groups.io@%!s". Obviously it"s an non valid email address. How to fix that ? is it a bug ?, an error I've made while configuring my list ? I tested this with both settings of my list : "reply to list only" or "reply to list and sender", and both have the same behaviour. I've tested with two different lists, and i's the same. Can someone help me ? Thanks in advance |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi! I'm new to this; just started my private group yesterday (to escape
Yahoo!)
Question 1: What is the use/benefit of the User Name?? I was system-chided
when I failed to enter one, so I did. It wouldn't let me use my real name,
saying it was already in use, so this must be system-wide and not just in my
group.?? Is it perhaps a Chat handle? There's nothing in Help to clarify its
use.
Question 2: How can I change/delete my User Name, which appears to be a
permanent part of my profile and directory entry?
Thanks,
Alex @Perk

How can I add a Constant Contact list to groups.io?

Re: copy paste
The text below was pasted in Firefox on a Win7 PC using the track pad (right-click -> Paste). "Paste" did not appear in the context menu until I had copied the text into the buffer. "Paste" also did not appear after I had pasted the text below.
On my Windows 7 computer with Firefox, trying to use the mouse to paste, paste isn't even an option. Ctrl-V works fine, so I'll do that. |
Re: Managing main group
I'd give some thought to hashtags also.? May not be good fit but...
AFAIK, messages cannot be moved from one subgroup to another (/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/5475284#3304) - might be an issue if people post in the wrong subgroup all the time.? [whereas you can edit the topic and change the hashtag pretty easily] For people that?only want to get announcements and newsletters, send them as Special Notice and have members set the Special Notices Only option. Just a thought. Toby |
Re: Number of Groups.io Members
Been awhile since the last update.? New member this morning is number 3099376, latest visible group is number 8787

Re: copy paste
Using Firefox, I can bring up the Paste option with a right-click, assuming I have anything in the clipboard.
Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
Re: Managing main group
Each group and subgroup is pretty much independent as far as moderation and other settings.? The only restriction is that everyone must be a member of the main group before they can join a subgroup.
Other than explaining which group/subgroup is intended for certain posts, there's no explicit way to keep folks from posting in the wrong one.? There are a lot of settings that each member can choose as far as which posts they get.? Take a look at /static/help#subscription-options and the sections just below it about muting and following. If it were me, I'd probably set up the General Discussion as the main group, then all the others as subgroups.? Then I'd set the Default Sub Settings for all of them to "Individual Messages" and "Following Only" with "First Message Also" selected.? With those settings, each person would get the first message of any thread, but after that they'd only get any they choose to follow.? You may find that other settings are better suited to your group, so look through all the options to see what might work best. There are many options available on GIO, so it can take awhile to determine which are the best for any given group/subgroup. Duane -- Help: /static/help GMF's Wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Search button at the top of Messages list A few site FAQs: /static/pricing#frequently-asked-questions |
If none of the more obvious "Moderate" settings shows up as the problem, you might check your Attachments setting (in Message Formatting). One of the options there is to Moderate them - that is, someone would have to "okay" any messages that contain attachments. Emails with attached "cards" or those that use stationery designs could be showing up there. A URL by itself doesn't typically show as an attachment, but if there is a "preview" along with it, that could.

Managing main group
please bear with me since I am a newbie...One problem we had with our yahoo groups is that all discussion threads ended up one large group, and there was no good way to ignore threads that you were not interested in.? I want to setup the new groups.io group so that everyone is automatically subscribed to an ANNOUNCEMENTS and a NEWSLETTER group, but they are free to ignore all other groups such as GENERAL DISCUSSION, EQUIPMENT, BUY-TRADE, etc.? My understanding is that the ANNOUNCEMENTS and NEWSLETTER groups would have to be subgroups of MAIN along with the others. How can I keep everyone from posting to MAIN as a default?? We will have some subscribers who are only interested in seeing announcements and the newsletter and won't care about anything else, and I would like to avoid having to set up separate groups for those two categories.??
It occurs to me that I can setup MAIN as moderated, but will that extend to the subgroups?? I really don't want to spend the time moderating the MAIN group. Thanks |
