Re: #howlong Answer from Support

aspirit,
There is an automatic acknowledgement that you should have received immediately. If not
your spam filter may have captured it, or
something went wrong. But as to an actual response, as Bruce said that could take an indefinite amount of time. If there was a problem with the acknowledgement there's a possibility that the same thing may happen to the actual response.

Re: The "via" responses
Sharon,
What is going on with responses to groups with the via addresses:No. Thanks, DMARC! DMARC is an email specification that attempts to eliminate all spoofed messages. However, it sweeps up traditional mailing list messages as "spoofed" because the From address is the posting member's, but the message was delivered by the list service. Hence what Y!Groups did to put the group's email address as the actual From address (inside the angle brackets). I think Groups.io has the least damaging approach to the DMARC problem: o For sending services which do not specify "reject" as their DMARC policy (or don't use DMARC at all) Groups.io copies the poster's From address to the outbound messages without change. o For those that do, Groups.io concocts a From address that includes the poster's address in the user-name field (before the @ sign) yet has groups.io as the domain (after the @ sign). This satisfies the DMARC anti-spoofing criteria. Unlike Y!Groups approach, it also keeps the From address of each poster distinct, so that your address book doesn't lump all members together as a single address. A consequence of all this, as you've noted, is that when you make a Reply message that includes a quote, above the quote of the original message, the typical "On [date] [user] wrote:" line created by your email interface tends to have a bit of a mess for the "user". Another consequence (to the Groups.io approach) is that people you correspond with both on and off list may end up with two address-book entries: one with their actual address, and one with their "via groups.io" address. Re: How to move Active (but apparently abandoned by unresponsive group owner) Yahoo Groups???
George,
I am merely a member of the group. Combing through the information onAs a member, no. You would have to be at least a moderator. If you know of a way to do that, please enlighten me.The closest a member can get would be to collect the email addresses of people who posted - if the member was receiving individual emails and if the member has been saving them in their email interface. But that will only get the (sometimes very few) members who actually posted messages. Sharon Villines via Cohousing-L <cohousing-l@...> "Gabe Goldberg gabe@... [PublishingDC]" <PublishingDC@...> "[email protected] Calendar" <[email protected]> "[email protected] Notification" <[email protected]>This is happening with all group lists, not just groups.io but it is totally infuriating because it confuses who is sending and responding, and creates absurd addresses. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯m thinking they just wanted to quickly check it against whatever address

Re: Posting Tables
Bob,
How does one post a table and insure that the grid lines appear? There are so many variables here that it is hard to guess where to begin. Starting with which email interface are you using to create the message, or whether you're using the group's Reply or New Topic features. I've been known to throw my hands up in frustration, create the look I want in Excel, and then screen-shot it to paste into a message as an image. Re: Letting non group members post to group
Barb,
Is there a way to allow non-subscribers to post unmoderated? No. I also see there is an option in Integrations that says ¡°Create aIt is similar, in that it is intended to let you subscribe that address to specific services (or pass it to specific people) to post messages to your group. How does it work, or if it differs, how so?You can have more than one such address (up to the integration limit of 5 for Basic groups). The addresses are ugly - each includes a psuedo-random sequence so that it can't be guessed by someone who wants to spam your group. For each you have the option (when you create it) of whether messages posted via that address are moderated or not. You can also delete an address if you need to cut it off or if you need its "slot" for a more valuable poster. Re: How to move Active (but apparently abandoned by unresponsive group owner) Yahoo Groups???
George, Unfortunately, it was set up as a private, restricted group, on , before Yahoo took over. ? I don't think that has any bearing on the situation. I was talking about what privileges you have, as a moderator. Using PG Offline might be my only option at this point. If you don't have the requisite privileges, and can't contact someone who does, then yes that may be the only thing left. Fortunately you can Invite (or Direct Add, if you upgrade to premium) the entire Y!Group Membership list by pasting the entire list (one address per line) into the Invite page. If there are more than twenty (in any 24-hour period) your action will be held temporarily for review by Groups.io, but that shouldn't deter you - approval is normally fairly quick (less than a day). Letting non group members post to group
In one of my old Yahoo groups, we allowed non members to post without moderation, in order to ask questions. In GIO, I only see an option for this that has the posts by non-subscribers moderated. Is there a way to allow non-subscribers to post unmoderated? I also see there is an option in Integrations that says ¡°Create a receive-only email address that posts to your group¡±. Is that the same thing? How does it work, or if it differs, how so? I can¡¯t find anything in the Help section about it. Thanks for any help.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý¡°So I think in Ellen's case the problem may
actually be fraud... (and one that, from what she said, Apple are aware
of)¡±
?
I hadn¡¯t thought of it being a fraud. When I
got the msg with the payment due, I was upset because this happened once before
with my eastlink acct. I¡¯m still getting email from different people meant for a
dentist office on the East Coast. Eastlink keeps telling me they¡¯re working on
it. No dots involved there... and I¡¯m not getting billed for anything. It¡¯s just
a strange error somewhere inconveniencing a lot of people.
?
However, I had to tell Apple where I lived and
I gave them my phone # (they didn¡¯t ask for it, but I gave it to them anyway)
They did check somehow and got back to me and said it was fine. Just scrap the
email and don¡¯t worry about it. Scary to think that people can order things
online and someone else has to pay for it because of a dot. On the other hand,
if you do an email addy without a dot, you could end up with messages going
somewhere else? Not a good thing on either side of the equation.

Subject: Re: [GMF] Sidebar - Gmail dotted email
addresses ?
Jeremy,
?
I would suggest that this is all down to the question: 'When is an e-mail address not an e-mail address?' Answer: 'When it's an id.' ?
Correct.
?
And any
third-party using an email address as an ID must not presume anything about the
semantics of the user portion. The only safe assumption is that each unique
spelling is a unique individual. Dots are not the only issue, you even must
assume that capitalization might matter: John@... may not be the
same individual as john@....
Moral 2: if somebody's signing up to your service with an e-mail as id, do your best to ensure it is theirs... ?
Correct again. This is why Groups.io requires that a user confirm their
email address (prove that they received a notice sent to that address) before
the address can be used to participate. If your group's Members list has any
email addresses bearing the NC badge, this is what the owner of that address has
not done - Not Confirmed.
? And this discrepancy - that if your e-mail address is ab@~ , and somebody can use a.b@~ as 'their' id (but which is your email), then it is a security loophole: see (and other responses to googling 'google email netflix security fail' )? ?
I think
Moral 1 is simpler, and applies no matter what email service you use: never
confirm an account when you didn't, just a moment ago, originate the
confirmation request.
?
So I think in Ellen's case the problem may actually be fraud... (and one that, from what she said, Apple are aware of) ?
Only if
she had confirmed an account using the non-dotted address. Otherwise it might
just have been a typo that misdirected the other person's message to her.

Confirmation Emails Not Received
