Re: Can't get to my group site

Hi Dain,

I may be able to help here because I've been blocked by Norton and it won't let you bypass the block. I've also found no way to whitelist sites in Norton. As per earlier messages, I spent a couple of hours with Norton Support and they had no answer but said they would elevate the problem to a higher level, but I'm not holding my breath.
  • What I've found for Google Chrome; If you've got the?Norton Security Toolbar Extension enabled, it includes "Safe Search" and "Safe Web." If you disable the?Norton Security Toolbar, you will be able to access the Groups.io sites. BE AWARE that you are also turning off these Norton services, so do this at your own risk!?
  • What I've found for Firefox;?Firefox will let you Continue to the Site but every time you change pages it blocks it again and you have to hit Continue again, a pain in the behind. In Firefox, the Norton web protection Add On is called "Norton Safe Web" and, like Chrome, you have to disable this to avoid the repeated blocks.
  • What I've found for Microsoft Edge: It is not impacted by Norton because I've not found a way to Add On Norton Safe Web or Safe Search. I'm not a big user of Microsoft Edge so have very little experience.

Re: Can't get to my group site

This is being worked on and will likely resolve within a few days. But the best advice you can give them is to get rid of Norton. I tried it once, and it was such a resource hog that I decided I'd prefer have a virus.

Re: Wiki Search? #notworking

Thanks, Bill, but that¡¯s not an issue. No copy/paste, clean new entry, no dummy blanks (intended or otherwise). I¡¯ve sent a support request to Mark. It¡¯s only this one particular group (thanks to you guys replying to my question). I own other groups and they are having no problems.?

It does seem to have started, we think, around the outage the other day (can¡¯t sweat to it but had no prior complaints). Everything else in this particular wiki is working: links, creating, editing, deleting. Tried creating a new page, that didn¡¯t return either. Tried adding an edit to existing page, nada.

I¡¯ve logged out, closed programs, cleared all temp cache files, cookies, powered down, started over - and on multiple devices. Can¡¯t think of anything else to try (even as quirkycrazy as it may seem).?

Just plain stumped (and frustrated).

Re: Transfer Group from Yahoo

Judy -- One of the biggest pitfalls we encountered were Yahoo group members who were set to "no email." We had a difficult time notifying them of the migration, and despite our best efforts some of them were blind-sided. Since there's no reliable way to contact them via the Yahoo group, you may have to capture their email address and send them a note manually. To mitigate this, I wanted to put up a new banner (i.e.: "cover image") that notifies anyone visiting the Yahoo group of our move, giving the new groups.io URL. Yahoo has repeatedly frustrated my efforts to do this.

You can also plan to have a number of members start to bounce emails after the transfer completes, due either to dead email addresses among your Yahoo records or recipient mail servers that for some reason think mail coming from groups.io as spam. The latter can be a particular problem as some will be automatically unsubbed from the group and have to be re-added. Anyone who had to "white list" Yahoo to get their group mail will likely have to do so with groups.io as well. Hotmail in particular seems troublesome in this regard.

That said, this can also be useful to eliminate some of the deadwood users that seem to accumulate over time.

In our two migrations, members, files and messages seemed to transfer well. Photos are more troublesome and you can expect to lose a third to a half of them...for no other reason than the Yahoo servers are balky. Be advised the files attachments to messages -- photos or otherwise -- are NOT migrated. This includes any photos appearing in the "Photostream."

Finally, be advised that many groups are abandoning Yahoo right now and it may take awhile (a week or more) for the transfer agent to get around to you. The inability to provide a firm date to your members as to when the migration will actually take place can also be mildly frustrating.

That's my experience. Hope this helps!

File type for Direct Add

Hi,

I'm about to use the Direct Add feature to add a large list of members. I understand the required format for the name, email address, and subscription preference.

What file types can I use for the document upload? I assume a text file works, but can I upload an Excel file? A CSV? A rich text document? How about a PDF?

Thanks for any guidance :-)

Janet,

?

my problem is that I do not know what you mean by ¡°pending subscription notice¡±. I do not get such a message. Instead I get a message that a member has joined already, even though I didn?t actually allow him to subscribe.

?

So when is the time to send the questionnaire?

Sorry if my questions sound stupid¡

I am bringing up this topic again, just to know if anyone else has the same problem.
My group description in Group Directory is truncated, which makes it difficult to understand what the groups is about.
I haven't been able to understand the reason.
Should I report this as a bug in Beta?

You mean you forged their name and email address into the From of your message to [email protected]?

Be aware that this will cause Groups.io to send a confirmation email message to that address. The recipient will need to confirm their desire to subscribe before they will be made a member of the group.

At which point, wouldn't an Invite be easier?
In our 'get together' group there is one member who only sends one on one eMail He never did join the Yahoo group befote.

Is there a way to add him on so that messages to him do not have to be CC'ed any longer?

Groups.io site updates - transfer progress for prior requests?

Is this 'track the progress of transfers' available ONLY to new transfers or in my case--I requested the transfer of my group on the 20th--can I check the progress of my transfer? If so, where do I go to CHECK the progress. Thanks.

This is the headliner, at least for anyone getting ready to transfer a Yahoo Group. I happened across it shortly after it went live, and "you heard it here first"!

Alas, it doesn't tell you where you are in the queue, which may still be several days long, but at least you have confirmation that your request was entered and your "Go" was received.

This is nice. Hopefully we'll never need it again ;-)

I am surprised and grateful #testimonials

Mark and all the helpful hands,

?

I want to thank you and the folks who helped transferring my group, which was done with this morning (European time).

?

Never ever would I have thought this would happen so fast, the waiting line seemingly getting longer and longer.

?

And even if this has been said hundreds of times, I say it again:

?

I am really impressed by the functionality and the concept of the group services and possibilities. And I am impressed of the work and the genius that is hiding behind all that.

?

Certainly I?ll have questions, and I know they can be posed here and they will be answered.

?

Thank you ever so much.

Re: Can Member Notices be personalised

To my knowledge, there are no variables/fields available.? That would be a good suggestion for the beta group.

Can Member Notices be personalised

Hallo ,

I would like to personalise some of my group Member Notices.

For instance, in a Pending Subscription Notice I would like to include something like

" A request for membership has been received from "names" <em@...> . "

How to add coding for some of the fields?
What fields are available?

OK,
Tony

Re: Wiki Search? #notworking

Are you typing your search terms or copying and pasting them? If you have a space character before or after the search term it can cause problems. That is most likely to occur when copying and pasting. Not nearly so likely with typing.

But you say "beginning with" and I wonder if that's the problem. Search in Wiki does suffer from the whole-word match problem: a search for "moderat" won't turn up moderate, moderator, nor moderation.

Re: Can't get to my group site

Dain,

What can be done for my users?
Groups.io is investigating. From the Groups.io status page:

"Erroneous phishing warnings

Investigating - Some users are seeing erroneous phishing warnings when
visiting the site on Windows. We have contacted Microsoft, Norton and
Avast to work to clear this up. To the best of our knowledge, there is
no real issue with the Groups.io site.
