rejected email - spoofing

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

A new user received an email from our group successfully, but when she replied to it, she got a mail delivery failure, stating that

?

This?sender?failed?our?fraud?detection?checks?and?may?not?be?who?they?appear?to?be.?Learn?about?

?

Her message does show up on the website just fine.

I am not sure which mailserver is rejecting it, hers or the groups. Since none of the other group members received it, I would think that it was the groups.io server rejecting her response. But she is using her work email, and I know a lot of corporations can sometimes block really useful things (e.g. she can't go on dropbox etc).

Including screencap of her failure message. I blacked out her email address for privacy, but it does match what is registered in the group.

Thanks for any help!

Re: European Date Format & 24hr Clock #calendar

Thanks Shai - I'll just have to watch I don't get tripped up - for us Europeans - is 08/12/17 - the 12th of August 2017 or 8th December 2017? But I haven't heard any sleigh bells lately so it must be August. And it's about time the World standardised YYYY/MM/DD. It follows the normal directory dissemination. But hey were just humans - nothings prefect - what would we do with ourselves otherwise (;>? Now about decimalisation........

Re: Sharing a calendar with a subgroup? #calendar

If these folks aren't on too many groups, they may be able to use the Calendar on the overview page without much confusion. /calendar That will show events for all of the groups they are members of and will have the 'shortcut' name of the group shown first. You can hover over each one to see most of the description, or click on it to see the whole thing if it doesn't fit the page. You could try it out to see what you think.

Re: Sharing a calendar with a subgroup? #calendar

That's precisely the issue; there are events I want to make private -- chores like "hey don't forget the garbage has to go to the curb by Thursday" or plans for group meals like "hey, dinner tonight is trout a la creme" that I don't want going to the big group.

Given that all members of a subgroup have3 to be members of the main one, I suppose it's a minimal issue, but I'd like to be able to get people a single authoritative calendar of stuff going on at the house so people only have to check one place. Checking their own personal account calendars might be the right solution but I have to remind people that's there.

Re: Sharing a calendar with a subgroup? #calendar

?,

Is there a way to configure a group's calendar so that its events are
auto-shared with a subgroup?
No, but members of the subgroup are perforce members of the primary group.

Meaning that members of the "residents" subgroup will receive event reminders from the primary group, and can access that group's calendar.

Perhaps what you want to do is disable the calendar in the residents subgroup so that residents do not become confused about having two calendars. That would work unless there are events which should only be displayed to members of the residents subgroup.

Re: Help with a group renaming #howtoguide #groupowner

?,

Any idea on how to fix this? Will this clean itself up on its own?
It may be a matter of page caching in your browser. Try refreshing the page before attempting additional changes.

How long does the renaming and realignment of resources take on the
back end?
I haven't noticed any delays on that end. But I've only once added a subgroup to a group.

Re: European Date Format & 24hr Clock #calendar

Jack,

So I wonder if there is a facility to record Calendar and other items
in a European date dd,mm,yy (or yyyy) format? And likewise the Clock
in a 24hr format?
Not as yet, but it has been discussed:

Sharing a calendar with a subgroup? #calendar

I've got a group and a subgroup representing the social calendar and public events taking place at a house, and the people who live at the house respectively.

The group is a public group with an application process; the subgroup is private and invite-only.

I'd like to be able to make the group's calendar events auto-share with the subgroup so that residents can see what's going on at the house separately from the events to which they themselves are participating in. e.g., "I won't be involved at the board games event, so I decline it, but I should still see it on my calendar so I know everybody else at the house is busy."

Is there a way to configure a group's calendar so that its events are auto-shared with a subgroup?

Help with a group renaming #howtoguide #groupowner

I'm an owner of a group that was, until today, named "stationbeta-social."

I created a subgroup of that group, called "residents". In the process, I renamed the group to "stationbeta". There's a textfield on the subgroups screen that had "stationbeta-social" in it as the group name. I used that to rename the group.

Groups.io now is having trouble showing me either the main group or the subgroup on either "stationbeta.groups.io" or "stationbeta-social.groups.io".

Any idea on how to fix this? Will this clean itself up on its own? How long does the renaming and realignment of resources take on the back end?

Evolution on Linux. I'll check in with their developers to see what the fix
might be. Thanks!

Sheesh! I should learn to resist trying to send coherent emails late at night...

Anyhow, the subscribe, unsubscribe, group owner and help addresses that you are having a problem with all contain the "+" character. These work fine for me.

Hi again folks,

The above topic may have already been covered (I had a wee search through existing Topics but nothing jumped out at me)? So I wonder if there is a facility to record Calendar and other items in a European date dd,mm,yy (or yyyy) format? And likewise the Clock in a 24hr format?

Pete,

I think you may be experiencing a problem with the "+" characters in those email addresses though. Facebook Integration

Facebook integration is currently not working and I get the impression it is not very popular in any case. At least I haven't been able to find any groups that have done it. However, it seems to me like it might be quite useful.

We are planning to move our Yahoo group to Groups.io-- approx 3,000 members. We also have a Facebook page with a similar number of users and some amount of crossover between the two groups; exactly how much is unknown. I think it is safe to say that the two groups are split to a fair degree so integrating the Facebook feed into the group seems like it might be beneficial.

Have any of you used the Facebook integration? Or know of some groups that have? I'd like to check their message archives, if public, and see what the user dynamic is like between group and Facebook.

Thanks!

Drew

Was the file actually attached to the email, or was it via a web link? Many
email clients will display the latter as the former.

I hope that io will leave the restriction as it is.??

I think readers have available some reasonable tools for the particular predicament you describe.

Google-searching the company by name ?

If that does not turn up a "contact us" address, try replying to the group message that give ?the munged address. In that reply ask that sender resend the address--but in am obviously technically broken form that will? elude? automated scans, while remaining easy fort? humans to read.?

For instance, if the company's e-addres is " <mysterycompany@...>", s/he could rewrite the address as?

1)? "mysterycompany at commerce dot com"? OR ?

2) "id: mysterycompany / domain: commerce dot com". OR? ?

3)? stuff the address? with pre-identified nonsense syllables eg
"remove 'box' and 'cox' and empty spacesfrom the following to find the company's address:?
?mysteryboxcompany at boxcoxcommerce . com.

Etc., etc.? Someday, no doubt, AI will catch up with such simple shenanigans. ?Meanwhile use with discretion and sparingly.
