Re: Problem with the way Groups.io sends group messages

Chris,

I am used to Yahoo Groups and emails from this system don't have say
they come from one's email address, true the email address is in the
header but not displayed by Thunderbird.
I don't know what you are seeing in Thunderbird, more exactly I don't know how you can avoid seeing the poster's email address in the From column (if you stretch it wide enough) or in the From line when you open a message from a Y!Group.

Maybe you have your Group email addresses as contacts, and you have checked the box "Always prefer display name over message header" in each of their contact forms. Then the From would show the same thing for every post from that group (not very useful, IMO).

----

One of the problems here is that various email interfaces handle the From information in various ways.

For example Thunderbird also has an option to "Show only display name for people in my address book". But even turning that on would show you the poster's email address.

Here's what I see in Thunderbird, with neither of those options checked:

Shal Farley shalf@... [yahoo_group_of_groups] <yahoo_group_of_groups@...>

That differs from the actual From field (shown in the Message source) only be the removal of the quotation marks that delimit the display name part of the From address.

From: "Shal Farley shalf@... [yahoo_group_of_groups]" <yahoo_group_of_groups@...>

-----

So it is perilous for you to judge what other Yahoo Groups users may think is normal according to what you see in a single example user interface.

Shal
