For this very reason, our Yahoo! group had two (then three) co-owners. When one died, the other was hard to get hold of, but having the third made it possible to continue and eventually transfer the group. We wouldn't have it any other way, so immediately upon creation of the new group, we made a co-owner of an trusted and active member.
