Is this the lighter black you're?looking for?? When you reply to someone look for the down arrow beside the letter A.? It's the next box beside true black.

Nichole -- There is no way to set a default font color.

If a group allows it, you can select a font color in the editor by clicking open the secondary toolbar. See screenshot below for "dark gray."

For further fine-tuning, click the tiny palette icon at lower right to enter specific RGB values.
I've noticed this default color is more pleasing to me at least, but if I copy and paste something into my post that is a "darker black," I don't know how to make it the lighter black color.
Highlight the text you wish to change with your mouse, then change the color using the sequence above.
Example below (you'll see my signature is in the default lighter black and the script I pasted is in the darker black):
