Re: Direct add members

?
Here are my issues with the invitation.? All of our heads are deeply wrapped up into our Groups but (depending on the invitee audience) the invitation Email can be received with a "What the heck is this?" and it be ignored or deleted or sent to Spam.
?
This is the topic on Beta if anyone wants to bump it or add thoughts to it.?
?
The current Invitation Email reads: You have been invited by Display Name <Mod email address> to join the Groups.io group GroupName@groups.io? ??(It reverts to the UserName if DisplayName is blank in the Mod's Subscription profile.) Issues with the current invitation method: #1)??The Invite Page implies that there might be better acceptance success if the Invitation is personalized.? However, the Invitation email doesn't represent the invitation request in the best possible way, thus leading to "rejections."? If re-worded, invitations could easily be more conducive (although not foolproof) to being accepted.? i.e., make it more recipient-friendly rather than asking the Mod to mitigate how the canned invitation "comes across" to the recipient. #2) ?Oftentimes, a Display Name will not make sense to someone outside of the Group.? ? In my example, the invitation will read: "You have been invited by KWKloeber ¡®84 mk-I #3573 trbsfk m-25 <KWKloeber@...> to join the Groups.io group [email protected]." ?[I won't bother explaining why the DN is so long, it's irrelevant.] Therefore, this could require sending a separate email to warn an invitee that "You will receive an invitation from Display Name" that contains an email address that looks fishy (i.e., GroupName@groups.io) but is actually the name of a message Group. #3)??Unless the Mod's UserName/DisplayName is their "real name," an Invitee receiving a cold invitation might have no idea who sent it.? This leads to Invitation Emails looking phishy and being trashed/rejected. #4)? We are wrapped up in our own Groups and don't always think about appearances to folks who know nothing about our Group or G.io in general. The Invitation Email appears to be inviting the recipient to sign up for (or do who knows to do what with) an email address (i.e, [email protected]) -- it looks suspect to someone unfamiliar with how G.io names its groups.? It looks phishy and nefarious and can lead to the Invitation being trashed/rejected. #5:? The closing of the Invitation email is: Cheers, Any email using ¡°Whatever" Team sounds fishy, and is frequently seen in phishing or nefarious emails.? ?And this one looks fishy, considering that the Invitation is supposed to come from a Group Member (Mod), not from a nondescript "Groups.io Team member."? ? Therefore my:
#Suggestion 2: (provide options to make the Group more recognizable to non-member invitees) Place options (radio button choices) on the Invite Page for the Invitation Email to use either the (a) Group Name or (b) the "Group Title," if one is entered in the Group's Settings (i.e. in my example, International Catalina 30 Assn Forum.)? ? If no Group Title exists, default the Invitation to be from the Group Name (minus the "@groups.io") so that the Email does not appear nefarious.? ?For my example the revised Invitation Email would read: Ken Kloeber [optional "Real Name"]?<KWKloeber@...> has invited you to join the group International Catalina 30 Assn Forum that is hosted by by Groups.io () OR, if we had no Group Title, it would read: Ken Kloeber <KWKloeber@...> has invited you to join the group Catalina30 ["shortened" from Catalina30@...] that is hosted by Groups.io () #Suggestion 3: (be consistent)? Change the closing to: Cheers,
Cheers, Or if the RealName option is not chosen: (omit the DisplayName/UserName)? Cheers, or if the Group Title option is not chosen: Cheers, ? Yes, I realize some of the issues could be mitigated by adding the custom message, but overall it looks pfishy.? And, adding a personal message would be unnecessary if the above revisions were made.
The Invite Page could be more clear as to where the Custom Message is used in the Invitation.? By sending a trial invite to myself I figured it out. ? -Ken ?
