Re: Notification Message When a Message is Posted

I set the sub-group to Announcement-Only and sent a test message from my non-owner test membership. I did immediately receive the Mail Delivery Failed bounce message but the explanation ("This is an announcement group...") is buried in all the bounce message text; that's not great because some folks will overlook the actual reason for the failure. But, yes, it works.

I no longer received the "waiting for moderator approval" message.

However, I cannot find a way to change my Subscription Settings to notify me that an Announcement-Only group message was received but bounced because of the Announcement-Only setting. Is there a way to have that notification sent to me?

Getting that Notification would allow me to send an explanation email to the sender who tried to send to the Announcement-Only sub-group.

I see no "unusual combination of settings." Non-members are not allowed to post to the sub-group and I have set "messages are not moderated."

At least the message sent to the Announcement-Only group was not distributed.

At least using this method other group Owner/Moderators did not get the failure notification. Alas, neither did I...

As is, the member gets a notification the message is waiting
moderator approval.
That's odd. My guess is that you've applied an unusual combination of settings.
Do you allow /non-members/ to post to this subgroup? You'll find that under Message Policies.
Otherwise, go to admin>preferences>settings>group type and moderation. If you change the Message Moderation to "Messages are not moderated," any post from a non-moderator should immediately bounce with an explanation. Not a notification, a /bounce./
If this is not acceptable (i.e.: you want all messages moderated, even those posted by moderators), then it appears that the Moderation Setting is evaluated prior to the Group Type when a message is received. I can only call that a bug.
If YOU want to receive the notification, you can turn that on in your own Subscription settings.
Hope this helps,
Bruce
