Free Account: Moderator-New email

I am an Adult Ed School Teacher with a free account.? I have another former student who is a moderator as well as myself.
My other moderator besides myself needs to change his email address.? His email listed in our is no longer in use.?

I have tried adding him with his new address, but the system says he is already a member even though it is a different email.,
?I was going to delete his name/ old inactive email after his name/ new email was added,? but doesn't work that way.
What has not worked: Groups.io won't let me add him with his new emaili as another moderator

Does anyone know the proper way to change the moderator's email on a free account if the other moderator can't get into his former email?? Searched 2 days in an answer, our other moderator is techy. I am not. He keeps us up and running. I need his moderator skills.? Does anyone have any ideas?"
