I wouldn't worry about information overload, because users can individually adjust their mail settings. For example, receive all email, receive no email, receive only important group notifications. If receiving all email, they can get them sent out as they arise but they can also opt for a digest, which?means a bunch of emails sent in one larger email about once a week (or more frequently if there's a lot of email that week).

Of course, if you make that change, it would make sense to tell your users how to do that. That would be an "important group announcement."??
