Odd reply-to-sender behavior #replytosender #question

I recently used my mail client to "Reply To Sender" (my list is set to reply to Group by default), and was surprised to have it bounce. It turned out the From address was <john@...> rather than <john@...>. Here's what the relevant message headers looked like:
From: "John Smith via groups.io" <john@...>Usually, my list gives the real email address in the From header, looking like this (note the lack of "via" as well): From: "Jane Doe" <jane@...>Does anyone know what causes this and how I can prevent it? I think it's at least consistent per-sender... could it be that this happens when people use the web interface or something? |
