Profiles are hierarchical structure. At the top you have your Groups.io account profile and then under that you have a profile for each group you subscribe to. If a group also has subgroups that you subscribe to, then you get a profile for those too. As subgroups cannot contain other subgroups this means that you have a maximum of three levels. If you change details in your account profile, they are copied to your group and subgroup profiles unless you have already changed those details in the lower levels. If you just change details in your group profile, they will just show there and any subgroups below that (details are not propagated to higher levels). Using GMF, Beta, a couple of the Beta subgroups and a placeholder for your own group, the following diagram may help:
If you edit your group or subgroup profiles you will see a button at the bottom of the page which says 'Reset Group Profile'. The will remove any changes at that level and copy down details from the level above.
