sugar,
I am a mod for a group. The owner is having difficulty creating a subYes, if you have the "Manage Subgroups" permission. If you do you will see a button for Subgroups within the Admin expander in the left margin. It is near the bottom, just above the Activity button. That Subgroups page (not the ordinary one that members see) has the "Create Subgroup" button near the top. Below that, a list of primary group members with checkboxes for putting them into or out of subgroups. Then place her as the owner after? As owner of the primary group she is implicitly owner of all subgroups. So you don't have to do anything to place her there. Same for mods of the primary group also. How would this affect the group if it does?Astute question. It sounds like this would be the group's first subgroup, and if so this will make a change to the primary group's web and email addresses. Fortunately the old addresses will continue to work, so there shouldn't be much disruption, but members may notice and wonder about the change. In the Settings page for the primary group the "Group Email Address" will now have two fields for you to set the primary group's email address, one to the left of the @ sign (default "main") and one to the right of the @ sign (defaults to the primary group's name). The field to the left of the @ sign is used to distinguish the various subgroups and the primary group from one another. The primary group and all of the subgroups will have the same name after the @ sign. As a practical example, let's say I had a group named "MY-PTA" (there is no such group, at the moment, it is just an example). It's address for posting messages would be: [email protected] If I create a subgroup for the PTA board members, and name that subgroup "board" then the subgroup's posting address would be: [email protected] and the primary group's address would have changed to: [email protected] However, say I don't like the word "main" there. So, because the primary group is for all of my PTA's members, I change the primary group's name to "members". Now I have: [email protected] - sends to all PTA members [email protected] - sends to the board members only. I hope that makes sense. Shal |
