I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to reply from a different email address than the one they applied for membership with.

But the email address is NOT in the list of members waiting for approval? Or for that matter in the list of members that have been approved?

Other such messages in the log are shown with links to both the email address and the email subject, that link to the member page and the email itself, respectively.
Join [email protected] to automatically receive all group messages.
