Dano,
That depends on "by who". If you give the mbox file(s) to Groups.io to import for you that's exactly what happens. They get put right into the message archives, same as the Easy Yahoo Groups Transfer would have done. If you mean yourself, manually or with automation, then no: there is no import mechanism available to users. The best a user can do is re-post them. That causes the messages to date-sort in the order of the date of re-post, not the date of the original posting. You (or the automation you use) can mitigate that somewhat by putting the original date in the message body. Also, unless you go to some extra effort when using Lena's automation, the messages post under the email address (account) of the person re-posting them, rather than the original poster. How much extra effort I don't know, I've not done it. I've only read some of the comments by people using her program. Again, you or the automation you use can mitigate this somewhat by putting the original poster's name in the message body. ?
Wilson's PGO-2-GIO application has a function to cause the original message numbering to be recreated during the reposting. But for that to work one must start with a "fresh" Groups.io group - one that has no messages in it. This is one of the reasons the usual advice when using that program is to repost into an "archive" subgroup, rather than into what you expect to be your active primary group.
With PGO-2-GIO it is said that attachments can be included as part of the reposted messages. ?
No. But Groups.io does use In-Reply-To and/or References header fields if present in the posted message to see if it matches up with the Message-ID field of a message already posted. I don't know if any of the re-posting automation programs try to cause the re-posted messages to link up in that way or not. Fortunately (or unfortunately) given that the re-posting happens over a short period of time Groups.io will use matching of the Subject text to thread messages together. See Topics and the Threading Algorithm for further info. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
