... how does some one remove their account from groups.io.

I know how to unsubscribe from all your groups. Click on the Groups.io logo at the top left of any page, then click Subscriptions. Or use this link:
/groups

Put a checkmark beside each group and then select "Unsubscribe" from the Actions menu. Note, if you are a sole owner of a group you may not be allowed to unsubscribe from it until you've either promoted another owner for the group or deleted the group.

But then to delete the account itself, no, I don't know either.
