Dan -- Groups.io management is very sensitive about inadvertently aiding the theft of a group. I'm not suggesting that's what you're doing, but simply "saying it isn't so" isn't good enough when there could be legal implications.
It could very well be that the owner *wants* the group to die a natural death. Since you are unable to contact him, I think you're on your own.

Silence in response to support requests doesn't
inspire a lot of confidence in the organization, and makes me a little
nervous about moving over. Maybe I should be looking for a different
list provider?
