Remember, all members of a subgroup will also be members of the main group. You can prevent members of one subgroup from accessing the content of another subgroup, but all members of all subgroups can access all the content in the main group.

For this reason, if you're planning on transferring unrelated groups into a single group with subgroups, it's a good idea to first create a "general" (or "dummy") main group which you set up so that no members are allowed to post, and to then create the individual subgroups, and then transfer the Yahoogroups groups into the respective subgroups one by one.

I myself have no opinion on whether this is a good idea, but the majority of senior members here seem to think it's not.
