The individuals concerned were probably on no emails, so your "old" group never sent emails to them. Then the members either changed email addresses and didn't update their Yahoo memberships either because they had forgotten about them or - worse case scenario - died.
When they were migrated to Groups.io part of that process involved them being sent a message that disregarded the "no emails" flag, and those emails promptly bounced.
As (I think) Bruce said the other day a 554 error is
permanent. You can in all probability delete those bouncing addresses without worrying about it, although my personal preference is to check the individuals' activity records just in case there is evidence of recent involvement.
Why are Yahoo addresses in the majority? For the simple reason that Yahoo addresses are so commonplace. If you look at the list of "surviving" members I would expect you to find that Yahoo addresses are in the majority there as well.
You are, I suspect, the most recent person to comment on a commonly experienced phenomenon.
