The Easy Yahoo Group Transfer of my relatively small Yahoo Group (80 members, 13465 messages, 3622 photos, 162 files) was completed this afternoon.? After working my way through the multi-step process starting last weekend, I gave the "Go Ahead to Transfer" request late night Tuesday, Oct. 22.? I remained in Step 1 (waiting to download from Yahoo) until sometime on Friday, Oct. 25, when I reached Step 2 (download in progress).? By 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 I was at Step 3 (waiting to upload to Groups.io) with 395 groups in queue ahead of me.? As of 3 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 27, there were still 383 ahead of me.? I concluded that at approximately 10 groups per day, it might be 30 - 40 days before my transfer was completed.? (I did consider that Mark is putting more emphasis and resources on downloading content right now, with the timeline for the upload process being less critical.? If the demand for downloading slows with fewer new transfer requests, then perhaps the uploading can move more quickly, and the queue will move more quickly.)
Considering upcoming activities that will require my attention, I eventually decided to pay the additional $200 to Expedite my transfer.? I was unsure if that was indeed an option after the transfer had been started, but the "Expedite for $200" button was still at the bottom of the screen for that group, so I gave it a try.? Sure enough, my payment was accepted.? When I refreshed the page, immediately my status box reported "0 groups ahead in queue"!? I was surprised, as I expected there to be a fair number of expedited groups ahead of me.? About 1 1/2 hrs. later, at 4:30 p.m. I received the "Your Group Has Been Transferred" completion email, with details of the members and parts successfully transferred.? WOW!?
I realize the extra $200 cost of an expedited transfer is not affordable for many (or most) groups, especially those who were unable to upgrade to Premium at the $110 price.? But for any who are considering the expedite option, I can attest that it most definitely "sped up" the process!? I will still need to follow up on members who did not get transferred (because they had their email set as "Not Disclosed" in the Yahoo Group).? But that is not a priority at this time.? My main goal was to retain the 20+ years archived content before it was lost.
I do have another group transfer in progress in the queue at 366.? I have no plans to expedite that one.? It will be interesting to see just how long that one will take before the transfer is completed.
