Dan -- Based on Mark's recent message (/g/GroupManagersForum/message/20002), this may be more problematical than it's been in the past.
It used to be that transfers would be queued up at the "accept the invitation" stage. Once the invitation was accepted and you gave the go-ahead, things would proceed quickly (within 24 hours).
Now, it seems that once the go-ahead is given, things may NOT go so quickly. This is a direct result of the incredible number of groups that are asking for transfers right now. Data is being collected from Yahoo as fast as ever, but importing to your group could take some additional time. To wit:
"Assuming that Yahoo doesn¡¯t have any server issues, we believe that we¡¯ll be able to export all data out of Yahoo before they delete all the data. However, in order to maintain a high level of service to our existing customers, we cannot import groups into our service as fast as we can export them out of Yahoo. There may be some delay before we can import all groups. If you wish to have your transfer prioritized, the group transfer page allows you to pay an additional one-time fee of $200 (this will go live at 9AM Pacific Time, October 22)."
Recently, I've noticed occasional situations where groups.io would briefly act like it was running maintenance or the message base search indexing would lag behind. There's only so much load that the existing hardware can service in a timely fashion, and it doesn't make sense to upgrade it when the whole situation is going to calm back down within 7 weeks.
Bottom line:? Depending on how much lag time you can tolerate and how deep your pockets are, it may make sense to pony up the two extra c-notes.

OK, thanks for the details - I think we'll take our chances :-). We tend to be pretty low volume at this time of year (it's a sailing group and most of our members are still out sailing . . . .), so a few days lag shouldn't hurt.
We also have a complete off-line backup of the Yahoo group (and I'll make another once we turn off posting), so we could theoretically import stuff manually if needed.
"Deep pockets" unfortunately doesn't apply :-))
