I actually would not know what that means. So I probably wouldn¡¯t read the rest of the post.

Here is a sample of what I might write to my groups

Hi Guys,

I want to speak a little about how our list can be more effective. I have noticed that a number of you are not paying attention to the subject line of our posts. ?It is very easy to just hit *reply* without connecting to the actual content of the post.

This creates problems with our threads. The subject line might say HAMSTERS and the content might be about the amazon fires. So if someone is looking to learn about fires, they won¡¯t ever find the information.

Do you have any thoughts about how we might remedy this problem?

I sure would love to hear them. ?Thanks!

So I think the *tone* is really important. If you are sort of beating people up, they will just tune out.
So even if you are frustrated that they are not getting it, or seem to not care and you are really aggravated, if you can co e back to the task with a sense that maybe they are just not tuned into how it works.

I honestly think that those of us who are more computer savvy forget that regular people just don¡¯t think the way we do :)

I think of it as a nudge or a prompt¡.and it seems to work well.

Anyway, that¡¯s my 2 cents for the day.

Do?not?the "reply" function of your email client to start a new topic. If you do this, people on the receiving end can no longer figure out what the message is about by reading the subject line. This is known as "" and is considered bad netiquette. Worse, others will probably reply to the message, thus spreading the disease. So save the "reply" function for actual replies.

Group members who repeatedly hijack threads will be placed on moderation; meaning all their group messages will be manually reviewed before being allowed to post. I don't want to do that, and you don't want me to do that.?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

The GROUPNAME group owner
