While you could use a poll, you would have to have a list of alternatives in mind to do that, which kind of defeats the purpose of soliciting input.
Certainly you could simply ask your membership to submit names, either names alone or with a brief (one or two sentence justification) for each to the group owner address.? If you're worried they might respond on-list, and that's really not wanted, then as part of the announcement to the group state
only to the group owner address and then promptly lock the topic asking for the names.? They know exactly what you want and in exactly what format.? Definitely include the
actual group owner address in the message so that they can easily respond to it.
