And, J, who else but the composer should be held responsible for their composition?

He's (and I'm) holding them responsible while you're handing them a workaround that shouldn't be needed in the first place. ?There's plenty of blame that can be tossed around here.

This is completely a matter of perspective and I'd rather spend the time, effort, and - if necessary - forceful education necessary to create a poster who knows how to post pretty much everywhere, not just on Groups.io. ? I have been on groups in the past where someone eventually was banned because they simply wouldn't make any effort to adhere to group culture and, in my opinion, that's what should happen.

An individual user is and should be entirely responsible for how and what they post and should have the basic skills necessary to use a modern e-mail client or web interface such that doing the edits necessary for "on list" posting is something they can and do without even having to think about the mechanics at all.

I've lost this battle, and I know that Groups.io is not removing the "trailing ellipsis" feature. ?That it was ever necessary in the first place, well, I leave that for individual readers to decide about that.

I can only agree with Xaun about people who believe that all tools, including the tools for interacting with an online list/forum, are or should be created equal. ?Since what we offer here is most often significantly more than a tweet, using the proper tool for the nature of the message one wishes to create is a responsibility that rests with an appropriately trained user, too.

P.S. to Louise: ?You, and only you, are responsible for your choice to convert messages that - in this day and age - are almost certain to have been composed using formatting by the vast majority of users into plain text. ?That this makes a lot of them more difficult to read for you lies with your choice. ?I universally advise my clients not to convert incoming e-mail to plain text for precisely this reason.
