I don't think this is necessarily true any more. Mark recently changed things so that every time you visit the site, your password/login cookie is renewed/extended. If you don't go 30 days without visiting, and don't delete cookies, your login never expires.
OK, then the ¡¯30 day¡¯ part of the explanation needs updating/correction
