Re: Concerned about FALSE Pending member/Spammer?
Right - but it should be an option as my groups are email based groups and the only responding
I allow is from email. If a group isn't email based then the archive option can be set so all members see it.
But there should be a way to hide it if needed.
?
"For sure! Can't read the archives AND can't get email? No point in anyone
Joining such a group." If you read the entire email, it wasn't for the whole group. Just the potential trouble maker.
?
Let me explain. Many of the groups?recently joining groups IO from Yahoo were email based groups.
The archives aren't any use to them and I don't want them to be as well as many of the "new"
Yahoo groups that are moving to groups IO from the circle that I travel in.
I am not saying to put everyone on "No Mail" just the spammer that the original poster was talking about.
But they still have access to the archives so no mail wouldn't be the answer right now.
I was just thinking of a way for the spammer or potential spammer wouldn't bother the group.
Moderation is one way.
?
I do know that the archives can be set to MEMBERS ONLY
But that isn't what I was talking about.
There should be an option so that members can't see the archives and should just rely on email.
What works for your groups or other people's groups don't necessarily work for all groups.

This doesn't make sense to me. If your members (I prefer the word SUBSCRIBER
to make it clearer that they're a MEMBER of your group vs just a MEMBER of
Groups.io) ) can't read the message archives, then they can only participate
via email.

For sure! Can't read the archives AND can't get email? No point in anyone
joining such a group.
?

The archives CAN be "shut down." Just change the group settings so only
SUBSCRIBERS (members of the group) can read the message archives.
