Both were set to restricted

It seems pretty weird on the surface; but is consistent with the subscription logic (one cannot join the subgroup unless you're already a member of main). What happens when you try to join both at once? Beats me.

And so I'm intrigued. Is the email address still NC? Perhaps once it's confirmed the pending subgroup join request will magically appear. Or perhaps once you approve the main group request and then he will mysteriously show up in the subgroup, too.

The work-around is fairly obvious, but I would be tempted to contact support anyway, just to elucidate Mark's thinking on this.
