Peter, A further question: does the Y! Group from which the transfer has taken place retain the data until it is closed/deleted? ? Yes. The transfer agent copies data only, nothing in the Y!Group is altered. If you want to close, moderate, or otherwise change the Y!Group you have to do that manually.
